Norman Bailer is the former name of the American indie rock band The Faint. Formed in Omaha, Nebraska and paying homage to the author Norman Mailer, the band consisted of childhood friends Joel Petersen, Conor Oberst, and brothers Todd and Clark Baechle. Under the newly formed Lumberjack Records (which would later become Saddle Creek Records) the band released one album titled 'Sine Sierra' in 1995.
Oberst soon left the band for a period of time to focus on other projects he was involved in such as Commander Venus and his own solo work that would later become Bright Eyes. Upon attempting to later rejoin Norman Bailer the members refused to let him practice. Shortly after the band would add Matt Bowen and go on to become known as The Faint.
