The Heads
There are three bands named "The Heads": 1) The Heads (1993), based in Bristol, belong to the space-rock school of extreme psychedelic rock founded by Hawkwind, but they also absorb the dadaistic elements of the Flaming Lips. Debuting with Quad (Rooster, 1993), the Heads spent a few years releasing only singles. Relaxing With... (Cargo, 1996) collects the 1993-1995 singles (1994's epic 11-minute "Coogan's Bluff," 1995's "Television") and a few new tracks that show a much harder style - a demented soup of Stooges, MC5 and Blue Cheer. KickBall + Sound Judgment Fest Reviews - A Weekend At The Coop.

This last weekend has been an amazing few days at The Coop.. Friday nights show was one of the coolest, and somehow smoothest house shows we've ever done.. It was a feature in both the Mercury and the WillieWeek which was a bit worrisome.. The last time that happened we had to repaint the bathroom because of asshole taggers.

House Show Rules #2: Bringing Common Sense

I had intended to post this as a comment following the "House Show Rules #1: No Jerks!" blogpost, but then it sorta became an essay.. Boom Boom Kid @ the Sea Shanty, 2007.. As someone who's thrown a few hundred shows in houses over the last decade and a half, I gotta say that house-show hosts must be aware of the risks of turning their home into a public space, such as cops, assholes, theft, electrical fire, damage to walls and floors, giant messes to clean up, and even violence.. The solution is not so simple as complaining about jerks on a corner of the internet (such as here!) which will go unchecked by likely every such jerk who needs to check their attitude. The solution surely begins with considering what risks are associated with each show before you even confirm it.

    Don't sleep on Mustaphamond

Awesome uhm....this band kicks ass.Is there anything else to say?First time i saw these guys was 6+ years ago at the now way defunct Meow Meow.. It was probably with Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower or some other cacophonous jazz-punk ensemble . Whomever it was, I remember being really excited about seeing the headliner - but it was one of those shows that i left being way more pumped about the local openers: Mustaphamond.. At the time i recall the band was something like 5 dudes doing Dischord meets Converge math-punk.. It was amazing and blew my mind.

Final weekend of the old PC-PDX!

hi all,It's been a long time coming... almost an embarrassingly long time.I started talking about it around this time last year.. The earliest date that i can recall where i said we'd launch was to be New Years day, some of you may been able to nail it on a earlier date than that.ALL said and done, here in internet ink,THE NEW VERSION OF THE SHOW-GUIDE WILL LAUNCH OVER THE 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND!It's looking pretty great, i'm not going to lie - we're very excited to get the new version published and have you guys use it!WHAT'S NEW:Maps and Membership and more!SPEED:The current version in the past few weeks/months has often been slow, sometimes just gone non-responsive (ouch!). Jakob This show at Mississippi Studios on 1/13 was definitely NOT a metal show! I came expecting stoner metal, doom, alternative, that the site said it was, and I got indie garbage that was essentially a Counting Crows cover band! Garbage!
