Acid Elephant is a kick-ass stoner rock band from Pori, Finland, said also to be as heavy as a dying, overweight mammoth.
The story of the band starts from a ramones-punk-trio which was formed by Miksa (bass) and Ojis (guitar) at fall 2005. Already during the same year the former drummer KK Willis left the band as a duo to reshape their form anew. The first step towards the present form was taken in 2007 as Miksa started to play together with the drummer of Arctodus, Roope.

It took until December 2008, though, that Miksa, Ojis and Roope unofficiallylish officially formed this stoner band - naked. In a sauna. The band was short a vocalist, though. As odd as it was, a local musicians internet community, muusikoiden.net saved the band and in May 2009 - as Ojis was live action role playing in the forest wearing pickles - Miksa and Roope hired Ilpo (guitar & vocals) and the group was brought together.
After the musical disagreements between Ojis and Miksa became unbearable in March 2010, Ojis was forced to leave the band. The Elephants continued thus as a trio, their music continuing to evolve. During the time after Ojis' departure and a few short sabbath periods their sound had become to be reminiscent of their name, being acid and elephantine.
3.7.2010 they released "People Go Missing" EP via web and this debut publication has been since freely downloadable at last.fm. After releasing PGM, though, the Elephants didn't stay laying in the fire for long, but went quickly to studio, and the debut album "GUERRILLA DRIVE VALLEY" was self-released on 3.6.2011. The Elephant sound of GUERRILLA DRIVE VALLEY was already being described as sounding like the band's name, but moreover it was a happy marriage of seattle grunge, traditional stoner rock and QOTSA with already a few psychedelic krautstoner influences shining through.
Since the release of GDV Acid Elephant has been again to studio recording their second full-length album with songs that have abandoned grunge and welcome the psychedelic world of space rock and doom stoner with open hands. That record is due to release in Fall 2013. Meanwhile, Ilpo left the band during Summer 2012. It did not mean the death of the Mammoth, though, and the Elephants continued doing shows as a two-piece. All in all, even though the band seems to be laying low, there's always something happening behind the scenes. E.g. they released a live album "Defenestration of a Dying Mammoth - aLive 2012" containing snapshots from shows in Finland during Spring 2012, for free download from Bandcamp. On 21.12.2012 Johnny Park Avenue Records released the live album as a C cassette and the Elephants announced Tuomas and Elis joining the stomp. It is not known yet, however, what comes of this unholy marriage of drone porn and erotic desert jazz.
And the March of the Elephants continues...
