Black Cold Bottles is a alternative rock band from São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil - now based in Carapicuíba, neighbor city of São Paulo. The band consists of Larissa Lobo (vocals, guitars, ukulele), Bruno Carnovale (vocals, guitars, piano, other instruments), Gabriel Brito (vocals, bass) and Caio Souza (drums and general percussion).
Larissa Lobo and Bruno Carnovale met themselves in mid-2006, through Orkut, a popular social network in Brazil at the time. They became closer to each other and them decided to start a band. Their inspirations were the same, such as The White Stripes and The Black Keys. Then they started to search for bandmates and take their project out of the paper. In this search, they found Rodrigo Moura (currently on Mirandous) and Heidi Silva. Together, they formed The Underground Blues Experience, which was an embryo to what become Black Cold Bottles nowadays. They released an EP named ‘Retreated Savagery’, in what they put all their influences. After some shows around greater São Paulo, the band split. Larissa and Bruno spent almost two years away from each other musically. In 2009, they decided to return and merge their ideas and try to form a band again, now refreshed and focused on blues rock and garage rock, and initially tried to go on as a duo. Despite Bruno’s first instrument is the drums, it wasn’t what they were looking for, and begun to search new members to their new project. Gabriel Brito, schoolmate of Larissa Lobo, was invited to join them, and so he went. They started to compose together with Bruno already playing the guitars and occasionally on keyboards. They decided to search for a drummer, and through an indication from a friend of Larissa’s friend, and then they meet Caio Souza, a drummer who was considering quit music at that time. So, with this formation, they decided to have a jam, just to see where it would go. In their first rehearsal, they composed ‘Silica’, and also decided to keep the band and choose a name to it. Initially they thought about name the band under Black Bottles, because their common love for beers and other drinks and also to get a little away from the brazilian habit to name their bands with ’The’ on the title. To distinguish and make it original, all members did agree to rename it to ‘Black Cold Bottles’.
Among Black Cold Bottles’ members the influence there are The White Stripes, Interpol, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the popular brazilian music (MPB). In their first record ‘Neander’, there is a Pink Floyd-ish kind of influence on ‘Black Heart’, and a shoegaze aura on ‘Light-Minded Love Song’.
Since their formation, Bruno has the lyrics duties on the band. Although Bruno usually compose the lyrics, songwriting is a collaborative effort and it has been noted in interviews that all the band members have roles in the process. As a result, all the band's songs are officially credited to “Black Cold Bottles”.
They released their first EP ‘Neander’ in December 2011. They recorded it in two days at Lamparina Studios in São Paulo, Brazil. It was released online only. It was classified as a ‘alternative gloomy-dreamy indie rock’ and described as an ’album with anguishing lyrics and dense melodies’. After the end of their hiatus, they released a limited version of Neander in physical CD.
In March 5th 2017, they released their first full-length album "Percept". They recorded it during the year of 2016, in a DIY method, at the NaHouse Studios in Carapicuíba, Brazil. All songs that are present in this album were composed before their hiatus, and rearranged in a way they could insert all their new influences after this creative pause.
