Heavy Load are made up of musicians with and without learning disabilities.
They have been around for over 12 years and have become cult heroes on the disability arts scene, famous for their loud, anarchic, chaotic and energetic sets. With influences as diverse as The Clash, Whitney Houston, Suzie Quattro, The Sonics and Status Quo they break all the accepted rules about being a band.
Heavy Load are 'real punks' – they don't care what they look because they sing about what they want to and don't seek the approval of anyone.

Heavy Load are 'real punks' – they don't care what they look because they sing about what they want to and don't seek the approval of anyone. They are truly refreshing.
In 2008 a feature length documentary about their exploits and attempts to make it in the mainstream was premiered at South By South West, Austin, Texas to great reviews – www.heavyloadthemovie.com
They play all over the UK and have also appeared at festivals such as Wychood in Cheltenham and Liberty in London's Trafalgar Square. 2008 also sees their first shows in the US.
Kylie loves them, Jo Whiley thinks they're great, Mat Fraser says they're pure danger and Wreckless Eric sites them as a triumph of disfunctionalness.
