Nyles Lannon is a musican based in San Francisco. In 2004, Lannon released the critically acclaimed album Chemical Friends on the label Badman Recording Company, an album that soon became a local favorite, earning 'Best Album of the Year' from the SF Bay Gaurdian, 'Best Folktronica Artist' from SF Weekly, and consecutive weeks in the number one spot on KUSF. After touring briefly for the record, however, Lannon found success with his other band Film School, releasing an album with Beggars Banquet, and embarking on a long series of tours with the band. He also started working as a session musician, scoring various commercial, film and TV productions for MTV, Comedy Central, WB, CBS and many others.
In mid-2006, Lannon decided to start focusing again on his solo work. He is set to release a follow up to Chemical Friends sometime in the summer of 2007.
Lannon's solo work is a hybrid of electronic aesthetics and homegrown acoustic folk. Although he is often thrown in with the singer/songwriter camp, his music jumps around from subdued electronic pop to delicate finger picked acoustics to glitchy beats and lush space rock. But it often maintains an intimate, eerie confessional nature, as most of the lyrics deal with the emotional upheaval of broken relationships and subsequent rebirth - the rediscovery of oneself and the joy of new love. So the singer/songwriter description fits, sort of.
Lannon produces all his music himself in his tiny bedroom studio in San Francisco.
He also has an electronic project under the name N.LN and released Astronomy for Children with the UK label Highpoint Lowlife in 2004. This album was also well received, earning 'Best Album of the Year' from Grooves Magazine and 'Album of the Week' from the BBC. Unlike his other music, N.LN is mostly instrumental, abstract electronica. He plans on releasing more electronic music after he finishes his next acoustic/electronic album. He also has several other projects in the works.
