Well it failed with a vote of 3-2 against accepting the amendments that would allow for such a change.

Oh Captain My Captain - Recklessly She Split The Sea. Releases November 10th, 2008Annie Marie, the second track, first song on Oh Captain My Captain's, "Recklessly She Split The Sea", interrupts a cheesy intro, that couldn't be any worse if they had called it "Opening Credits"; oh wait, they did.. Annie Marie is a sad pathetic song about a wimp.. It describes a girl that cheats on a boy and of course he's devastated.

I'm all about unity, bringing all our different scenes together, but this is not the answer Portland.. Like Journey should be left in 2005, let's leave the Christmas Sweater party in 2007.At Thanksgiving time, the first sweater party show was announced -sigh.. There was worry that it would come full swing, but the sweaters stayed mum - until now which is apparently the weekend to plan your sweater party.

The idea behind this is that everyone has a Doppleganger, an identical copy of themselves somewhere in the world.. If the person is good, then the Doppleganger will be evil and vice versa.. It is even said that if the two should meet, then they will both perish.Although there is no evidence that Dopplegangers exist, some people have actually reported claims of witnessing what they believe to be their Doppleganger.

House Shows vs. The Almighty Dollar : Where Do You Stand?

There's been a mighty discussion on the Show-Guide recently regarding house shows and the almighty dollar-dollar-bill-ya'll.. It's been interesting watching this hot topic unfurl. We haven't chimed in too much but rather let this one unfold on it's own and it's still going four days after the first post.. We've gone ahead and pulled out all the Shoutbox commentary and posted it in order in hopes to carry on this topic and to bring in the RSS readers into the conversation. For your annoyance or reading pleasure (it will vary for you post-by-post): 4/24/2009 12:34:48 PMjuvenile: fuck house shows that charge money;we are the brokest city foolz 4/24/2009 12:38:24 PMpc-pdx: Everybody else is broke too, like touring bands that are traveling around the country spending gas money and eating fooods.. You should never be turned away for lack of funds - but please remember that we need to support those touring bands so scrounge all you can! 4/24/2009 1:52:00 PMfuck that: fuck houses that dont give all the money to bands. unless a window gets broke. or its a benefit. your punk dollars go to punk bands to get to the next punk show. ask your mom for a bigger allowance, or start drinking cheaper beer.;fucking lackasses. 4/24/2009 3:04:00 PMNathan Backous: People that do house shows don't charge money because its fun or to make profit, they do it so they can pass the money on to the touring bands that have to fill their tanks with gas (gas stations don't donate it). If you like seeing bands, be prepared to trade some cash for it.

It was inevitable, as most loss is, but it is no less heartbreaking. 17 months after The Coop took over for Brainstains, there will no longer be shows at that address that's been repeated so many times over the last few years: 3535 N.. Lombard.. I, for one, will very dearly miss seeing bands in the space that occupied that address.

House Show Rules #2: Bringing Common Sense

I had intended to post this as a comment following the "House Show Rules #1: No Jerks!" blogpost, but then it sorta became an essay.. Boom Boom Kid @ the Sea Shanty, 2007.. As someone who's thrown a few hundred shows in houses over the last decade and a half, I gotta say that house-show hosts must be aware of the risks of turning their home into a public space, such as cops, assholes, theft, electrical fire, damage to walls and floors, giant messes to clean up, and even violence.. The solution is not so simple as complaining about jerks on a corner of the internet (such as here!) which will go unchecked by likely every such jerk who needs to check their attitude. The solution surely begins with considering what risks are associated with each show before you even confirm it.

It was probably with Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower or some other cacophonous jazz-punk ensemble . Whomever it was, I remember being really excited about seeing the headliner - but it was one of those shows that i left being way more pumped about the local openers: Mustaphamond.. At the time i recall the band was something like 5 dudes doing Dischord meets Converge math-punk.. It was amazing and blew my mind.

I'm dead serious the things you guys post are the only way that things change or get built 'round here so ask/post on what you want to see. Please leave a comment with a few updates you would like to see happen.. For example, we just got this in an email and are working on it (what do you think?)"As for the calendar, i was thinking you could add a big (big enough to fit some words) calendar with show info on it so you can get a more visual representation of your music plans for the month. like in each day box it'd have who's playing and where and when and how much, like a monthly planner kind of thing."The show-guide is about community and we want your feedback as a community on what is going to make the guide better for you.

We Fucked-Up and Deleted ALL The Flyers...

Yep, it's true! All 19,637 flyers went kaputznik and made a super bye-bye action with no recycle bin love of any kind.I am uber careful and paranoid of these things and still manage to pull an epic maneuver like this about once a year. -Last year whilst working on a client site, i deleted the entire four-year calendar set for *two* site for the Solano County Library.. YEAH BUDDY.Yep, So - where we're at now is that i quickly dropped $43 to get some magic (Slingblade)"Should'nta done that boy" software so as i can try to get back the deleted info off the hard drive. -IT was a half win.. I think we got back most of the files but there seems to be an issue where the files that came back did so with different data or whatever : The file names no longer match the actual show info they should contain so SHIT IS BANANANANAS all over the site right now.I have since found a version of the flyers folder in our old svn repo from about 6-weeks ago when we made some reconfiguration changes.. I, in all my awesomeness, didn't get these two flyer related folders back into svn sync (because we're virtualizing the directories to share the data with other sites, NERD stuff..) and totally blew the gun in the face. It's okay though.

      Welcome to the NEW server

This is it, welcome.we're a part of 'the cloud' now. multi-core processing in! single, slow-ass not-multi-but-single-1994-core processing out!MUCH more memory!most of you won't care about the nerd stuff, just know the site should be wicked-much faster now and not choke so hard when its serving up ++60 requests per second.THIS IS A WIN./that's all.

Where are the Band Bios? - Bios are having issues!

Hey everybody!Last.fm is where we currently get the band bios and it appears that their servers have been going through some funky patches lately.A few weeks back, we noticed that some band pages were taking something on order of a full minute or two for loading.. SUCKASS!We responding with "ohfuck, we gotta do something about that" so we created a new data access call that will abort after 2 seconds of no response.. If that happens, it means that you will see a band page with NO bio.. The bios might come back intermittently or they might be out for a while... it's all up to last.fm at the moment. We figured that it was more important for you guys to be able to surf through bands links, or whatevs you're doing, and find the shows quickly - rather than waiting for who knows how long for the bios to load.(for the nerds: i realize there should be a note on the page saying that a timeout happened and those bios are temp unavailable, but our shitty old code doesn't easily allow for that right now.

Take Five: missing a jazz-great, podcasting with pdx-great Arya Imig

It was over five years ago that i met the poppa of the Portland scene, Arya Imig.. It was at a show, of course, in the dmug basement that sparked it.. Since then, i think we've done some cool things together.. One of my favorites is this podcast from the fall of 2007.
