Teddiedrum = Jason - Dijf. They beat the drums to please.
Meet Dijf and Jason from Teddiedrum. This is how their day usually looks:
morning, aprx. 09am – Dijf wakes up and gets out of bed (he's an early bird). Meanwhile, two blocks away, Jason's head is still buried in his pillow (no early bird). Dijf prepares a cup of tea and cleans up his pet cat's vomit (she's allergic). Jason is sound asleep while Dijf ascends to his attic, a walhalla of customized drummachines and converted synths.

While he checks his emails, Jason finally arises and he checks if there's any coffee left (he doesn't drink tea). Meanwhile, Dijf has switched on the gear and scores the internet for new synthesizer software (he's a nerd). Jason has walked to the neighbourhood store for breakfast (it's closed). Jason phones up Dijf to announce his imminent arrival. Two minutes later, Dijf's doorbell rings. Together, they retreat to the attic and stay there until Dijf's wife (he's married) arrives from work (she's a teacher) and prepares dinner. Jason goes home, prepares an easy meal (he's single) and might head over to his local for a beer or two. Dijf will probably watch a crappy movie (he's a sci-fi buff) before joining his better half between the sheets. Tomorrow they will do it all over again. And the next day. And the next.
Their sleeping pattern and civil status might be different, but these two lads do share more than an immaculately groomed moustache! Today, best friends Dijf and Jason tap into their childhood memories of Knightrider episodes, Jan Hammer's Miami Vice theme, Belgium's new beat craze and Synthesizer Greatest compilation cassettes when they hammer it out in their homestudio.
When speaking about their music, Dijf and Jason resort to phrases like 'dreamy without being fluffy', 'mystical without going all Jim Morrison-esque' and 'something wave something'. Essentially, Teddiedrum pack their breezy, off-kilter synthpop with some unexpected punches. They don't fray from the experimental but never take their eye of the melody. According to Dijf and Jason, it's the drumsound that dictates the song. Their collection of toys (including the Yamaha DX7, Casio MG-500, Commodore 64 and the DG20 MIDI guitar) are stuffed with custom, pre-recorded hits, kicks and homemade synth patches.
According to Texas chillwave band Neon Indian, who've Teddiedrum supported, they have 'the coolest set-up ever', and Soulwax were so impressed by the boys' fresh sound that they invited the pair on their SoulwaX-mas extravaganza. Become a Teddiefriend on facebook.com/teddiedrum and check their two singles, the gruesomely catchy "Miami" and their summertrack "Odd Lovers". Be sure to check out the music videos, directed by Athos Burez (they're ace).
