The Whiskey and the Devil Chaplain is a fantastic mix of indie roots, folk and straight ahead Americana music. Formed at the latter end of 2007 the Whiskey is making a name one show at a time through their knock down live performances.
The band is held together by six musicians each coming from diverse musical backgrounds and is made up of Nicholas Ryan Hernandez vocals and acoustic guitar, Keith Richard Crain on banjo and vocals, Daniel Story Rice on a 1953 Fender Champion lap steel, Matt Sampietro on drum kit, Steven Potorke on bass and Rob Dudley on lead guitar.
The players of the Whiskey and the Devil Chaplain create a sound that at times can be missing in the world of independent music, but they continue to play the old goods and bring with it that timeless delivery.
"Crystal clear tones, alluring lyrics and an aesthetic craft that leaves you wishing there were more than four songs, this is the kind of music you find yourself coming back to listen to over and over. This is not a band obsessed with overproduced songs and overpriced equipment. It’s raw and it’s honest, but still catchy and noteworthy." Allysa Laurel, The Campus
"They like banjo and crap guitars. They like hand claps. They like tambourine. They like piss poor recording devices. Take in a show, you will not be disappointed!" - Ezekiel Simms of the Nashboro Cane Cutters
"Guitar player/singer Nick Hernandez has a Bob Dylan quality on 'I Am A Liar' and adds to the haunting beauty of 'Did it Make You Insane". Yet it's the catchiness of 'Angeline' that makes this a great EP." -Pete Menting - The Cheese Factory
