Vankersbilck was born on May 27th, 1985 and raised in a small town just south of Portland called Silverton, Oregon. He's an artist/musician that also continues to learn and practice sound engineering and audio production in and around the Pacific Northwest.. He learned music hands on at an early age, finding the drum kit, most comfortable, and the analog approach most rewarding and meaningful. His father played drums for the church band and for a short few years he would come early and stay late, so his son could get some practice in. That's when it all clicked, hearing the endless depth of the kit, feeling the wood in his hand. He believes music should be felt and obsorbed by the listener. He's not confined to one style, genre, or influence but the analog approach is important in all that resonates with him.
His style and tastes are diverse and developed. You’ll hear an abstract soundscape accompanied by a sweet melody recorded and tweaked from field recordings. His influences are rich, everything from hardbop Jazz to Rnb classics of the 60’s to electronica from South London. There are elements of electronic experimentation as well as instrumentation that asserts itself onto a solid rhythm section with rich bass and vinyl samples. Roots music has always been important in his life and you’ll hear reggae and folk influences in his drumming reminding us of the great “feel” drummers like Carlton Barret of The Wailers or W. S. Holland. He almost feels classical with his ear for music; however, was not “formerly” trained by today’s standards, but rather let music itself teach and guide him. He has always migrated underground and ignored the hype of the mainstream. His goal is to hang on to all those great qualities provided by analog thinking/playing, without being frozen in time, forgetting about the possibilities, creatively, that newer technologies can provide when creating and documenting what you want the world to absorb.
