pdx pop now! 2011
Portland music fans will be pleased to find out that PDX Pop Now! has announced the track listing for the eighth installment of their much heralded compilation. The 2-disc set is stacked with 41 tracks from some of Portland OR's finest musicians. O Bruxo, Blue Skies For Black Hearts, Swahili, Lost Lander, along with DJ papi chulo and DJ GIGANTE, have been tapped to perform and provide music between bands at this year's CD Release Benefit which will be held June 2nd at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison St.). The cover is $10 and that will include a copy of the 2011 PDX Pop Now! Compilation CD. PDX Pop Now! and Holocene have made special arrangements with the OLCC to allow minors into the benefit, so this show is ALL-AGES!

We do so love the PPN operation and everything they do for All-Ages music here in portland - we're all better off for having them here. But, despite it being a totally open process (read Carys many comments on the PPN posts over the years) - the discs do lack on the crunchy stuff.

  4. We hope that more crunchy bands submit tracks in the future! (Not to say that they didn't this year) We recognize that we can always improve.

    Thanks!

  5. 2nd to Nick, and thanks to Show-Bot... I just want to quickly point out that Wizard Rifle, Red Fang, Johnny Reno &VM, BOOM! could all potentially qualify as "heavy" or "crunchy," but it depends on your definition... we definitely strive to represent many sides of Portland's music and while there's always room to improve, it's hard to represent everyone's idea of heavy/crunchy/hardcore/doom/speed/metal/thrash/punk/grind when you also have to include so many other genres & styles. 40 tracks may seem like a lot, but it's still never enough to contain all Portland's artists have to offer... that's what makes PDX great! & yes @Scragz, part of our goal is highlight bands that most people, even locally, might not know about (yet)... I hope you check them out. Thanks for reading and for listening!

gkowash Dude if it says "ask a punk" then just look it up on facebook, you can usually find the address there. And if you can't find it, email whoever's hosting the show. Some people just don't want to put their address out on the internet for everyone to see, it's not a big deal.

Show-bot! if it's not 'axe a punk' then people don't post shows at all then there's no way to find out if you're not popular. Axe a punk postings allow you to see that your favorite band is playing somewhere soon and then ask then where it is. We tried for many years to not do this - but that's what people post. (...and everybody gets mad at us either way) I'd argue that not posting anything altogether is the more pretentious option.
-11/8/2014 11:49:13 AM
HAYWOOF Alirght I'm just gonna say it. This "ask a punk" shit is pretentious, annoying and makes it so people that aren't popular or don't give a shit sometimes can't find shows.
