Awesome uhm....this band kicks ass.
Is there anything else to say?
First time i saw these guys was 6+ years ago at the now way defunct Meow Meow. It was probably with
Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower or some other cacophonous jazz-punk ensemble . Whomever it was, I remember being really excited about seeing the headliner - but it was one of those shows that i left being way more pumped about the local openers:
Mustaphamond.
At the time i recall the band was something like 5 dudes doing Dischord meets
Converge math-punk. It was amazing and blew my mind. Their 2003 7"
'Flammable dreams for a culture of nightmares'(title?) is still a favorite in my collection.
Fast Forward a few years to
Ground Kontrol, a place that unless it was really packed, wasn't really (at that time) a good place to see a show. Even the best of bands could pull of a bad show there so i guess it's not fair to hold it against them but i had spent the entire week talking up the band and this show. When they finally took stage, we were witness to a bizarre saxophone vs drums set that, while clearly talented, wasn't the same band that i fell in love with a few years prior.
It had been a long time but the chance to see them again on friendly territory
The Sea Shanty this last Friday was opportunity not to be refused. The band immediately set to spinning heads by setting up backwards and confounding the drunks. Now just 2 guys,
The Locust quality drums and
Faraquet gone crazy guitar left the garage motionless in silent awe. This band is one of PDXs finest and shouldn't be missed.
Don't sleep on
Mustaphamond!
