Manel born on November 23, 1938, after her student days at the Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, came to stage at age of 25, with Kuveni in 1963, and won the award for her excellent performance at the State Drama Festival.
She was best known for her role played as Grusha in Hunuwataye Kathawa (Chalk Circle).

Married to well-known versatile dramatist, playwright, actor and director Henry Jayasena in 1962, she acted mostly in the stage dramas directed by her husband.
She came very much closer to the people through TV channels with her appearance in a number of tele-dramas. She won the hearts of the tele viewers by performing every role she was offered to make her an unforgettable character. She won the best tele-drama actress award at the Sumathi Award Ceremony in 1995 for her role in the Ge Kurullo.
On Saturday, July 24 2004, she passed away after suffering from a kidney failure.
