The band currently consists of Jeff Armstrong (formerly of D.I.E. (Death InEvitable), guitar and vocals), Sean Sheridan (bass), John McLynn (harmonica, guitar), and Bob Perna (drums). Night Train plays both a large variety of delta blues and classic blues rock standards, as well as their own catalog of original music, blending traditional blues roots with contemporary ideals.
2) Canberra 5-piece Night Train are ready to pummel the ears of rock lovers everywhere with the launch of their EP “Puzzle”. “Puzzle” is the culmination of over a year’s hard work and many hours spent in the studio. Unlike many other rock releases in Australia, “Puzzle” contains an assortment of well written tunes that take the listener on a journey from “in-your-face” guitars to soft, thoughtful ballads all with the distinctive and extraordinary Night Train harmonies and production craftsmanship fans have come to expect.
Recorded at Cloud Studios on NSW’s Central Coast, with award winning engineer and producer Paris MaCleod over a 3-week period in May 2005, Puzzle is definitely a step forward for this most promising act. The end result is a superb collection of tracks that is already gaining strong airplay on Canberra’s 104.7 and six other commercial rock stations throughout NSW & Victoria.
Night Train’s previous offering, “Black Sally Lane” sold out within days in Canberra and attracted 800- to the launch in October 2003. Black Sally Lane charted in the Top 100 of the National ARIA chart on Canberra sales alone – an astonishing feat in itself - and broke all sales records for a local artist. This drew the attention of many of the nations rock royalty, culminating in supports with Spiderbait, Jimmy Barnes, Killing Heidi, You Am I, The Screaming Jets and Magic Dirt plus a stint on the Channel V Music Bus.
Night Train consists of 5 likely lads, all hailing from the ACT region (Canberra Australia), who are genuine fans of Australia’s infamous “pub-rock” bands and melodic rock legends such as Live, Nickleback and Creed. David Bishop’s vocals have drawn favourable comparisons with Bernard Fanning, and the bands vocal harmonies are magnificent. It’s clear the band thoroughly enjoy playing live, emphasizing the “fun”, rather than the “earnest” playing and stage performance favoured by so many of today’s indie acts. This doesn’t mean Night Train are full of crunching drums and ear-piercing guitar solos (although hey can be!), but rather a carefully thought-out approach to their music & live performances alike.
Strong song writing, entrancing harmonies and a whopping dose of energy make Night Train a welcome entrant on the national recording & touring stage.
