In the summer of 2005, Jason Ray, J.R. Bellizzi and Andres Caputo formed the as-yet-unnamed Star's End. Based in Portland, Star's End worked on the handful of songs that would eventually become "The Escape" in Caputo's basement studio. The band began playing club shows in Portland and Eugene in 2006 and worked to perfect their material before beginning recording in December of 2008. Unhappy with some of the original recordings the band went back in the studio and finished recoding in 08 and released the Escape in August of 2009.

The album was well received and was called "spectacular instrumental orchestration" by the Eugene Weekly.
