That Metal Show is a talk show hosted by Eddie Trunk with co-hosts Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson. It premiered on VH1 Classic on November 15, 2008. New episodes air on VH1 Classic on Saturday nights and are rebroadcast throughout the week.
The show focuses on discussions about heavy metal and hard rock music, past and present. Among the regular segments are round table discussions and debates between the three regular hosts, interviews with heavy metal musicians, "Stump the Trunk," where audience members ask trivia questions of host Eddie Trunk, and "Throwdown," where the hosts and guests debate great moments in metal history.
After the season one premier episode, Chad Bower of About.com called the show "very hit and miss", noting host Eddie Trunk's "credibility, connections and easy on air style", while calling the Lita Ford interview "marginal". Britt Schramm of King Fu Rodeo was less ambiguous about his opinion of the show, calling it "a show so devoid of anything really metal that the originators of the first metal “talk” show, Beavis and Butt-head, would mock it without end." Music review blog "Gears of Rock" had generally positive things to say about most episodes, calling the Mike Piazza episode "enjoyable, entertaining, and interesting", and noting that the increased involvement of the guest stars has been a positive improvement over the early episodes.
