The Devil's Blood was a Dutch occult rock band from Eindhoven, formed in 2006. The band's style combined elements of hard rock, drawing influence from bands like Black Widow, Coven, Black Sabbath, and 1970s underground progressive and psychedelic rock. Their sound was described as "seductive, rather than aggressive," featuring female vocals, classical guitar leads, analog atmospherics, and "vintage satanic hooks."
The band was founded by lead guitarist, lyricist, and principal songwriter Selim "SL" Lemouchi. SL's sister, Farida "F. The Mouth of Satan" Lemouchi, joined the band after providing vocals for the song "The Graveyard Shuffle." The group's name was inspired by the song "Devil's Blood" by Swedish black metal band Watain.
The Devil's Blood made their live debut at the Roadburn Festival on April 17, 2008. Their first full-length album, "The Time of No Time Evermore," was released on September 11, 2009, through Ván Records. The band's second album, "The Thousandfold Epicentre," was released on November 11, 2011, and later released in the United States by Metal Blade Records on January 17, 2012. Following the U.S. release, the band toured North America as part of the Decibel Magazine Tour 2012, which was headlined by Polish blackened death metal band Behemoth. During the tour, the band faced an unfortunate incident when their bus driver allegedly ran off with their money, leaving them stranded in San Antonio, Texas.
On January 25, 2013, the band announced their disbandment through their official Facebook page. However, they later revealed plans to release their unfinished third album, "III: Tabula Rasa or Death and the Seven Pillars," an acoustic EP titled "66:2," a live DVD, and other live recordings.
In March 2014, Selim Lemouchi passed away at the age of 33. The cause of death was later revealed to be suicide.
On June 20, 2017, former members of The Devil's Blood, including Farida Lemouchi, Ron van Herpen, Oeds Beydals, Thomas Sciarone, Job van de Zande, Sander van Baalen, and Micha Haring, reunited for a one-off performance of "Voodoo Dust" at a memorial service for their former manager and booking agent, Danny "Bidi" van Drongelen.
Selim Lemouchi's spiritual beliefs, particularly his adherence to Satanism, heavily influenced his songwriting. In interviews, he cited "the three principalities of Adversity – The Death, The Chaos, and The Satan" as central influences on his work, stating that Satan was the driving force behind his creative power. Additionally, he acknowledged American guitarist Slash of Guns N' Roses as an influence on his guitar playing.
