As i'm sure everybody knows, We're hosting the Best Band PDX 2009 poll on the Show-Guide.
Our friend MIKE informed us that when you hit the [Enter] key on the keyboard after typing in a band - the #1 band gets a vote rather than the band that was manually typed in... That means that The Closet Monsters' vote count is unnaturally high and they didn't really get as many votes as are now counted.
We've thought about the best way to handle this and consulted some good people to help figure this one out.
What we've decided to do is to NOT start the survey over but rather delete the bad count for The Closet Monsters. They've done really well in this poll without the programming error in their favor and we're confidant that their dedicated fans will rally to get them back in the top, this time with a more fair count. For full transparency, here's the letter we sent them this morning:
Hey guys!
As you know, you're kicking ass in the best-band-poll on the Show-Guide.
However, and this is a big one. I fucked up when we put up the poll and there was a programming error that worked out in your favor giving you a huge and unfair advantage over the other bands.
Every time somebody typed in a band name and pressed the [enter] key on the keyboard, it gave the #1 band (that's you!!) another vote rather than the band they were writing in.
We can't restart the survey - people will be pissed!
So what we're going to do and what i think is best is:
We're going to delete your votes and start fresh for the Closet Monsters.
I know there was huge response from you fan base when you asked them to go and vote for you and i'm confident that it will happen again. -I'm not worried about you guys ending up with only a few votes and be screwed by this process.
People really have taken notice and there are thousands (seriously) of people who now know your name because of this poll. I hope you guys are not bummed by us having to do this, but i believe your fan base will rally and get those votes back up on the poll.
Regardless of what happens, your name is out there in the Portland scene and you will be included in the epic show that will come out of this poll.
