Experimental group based around the nucleus of brothers Thomas Jefferson Walter (Floridians, Terraform) and Dylan Thomas Walter (Byproduct, The Process of Elimination), which began as a free-improve/noise-jazz duo in Portland, OR, circa 2007.
Later in 2007, the roommate of the Walter brothers, Austin Piccone, filled out the line-up on alto saxophone, initiating an extremely active and prolific period for the group characterized by drug-fueled marathon freak-out sessions and Cagean excursions into abstract sonic realms. They continued working as a trio, focused almost exclusively on free-improvisation, until disbanding in early 2009, having then compiled a massive archive of 4-track recordings, and occasionally working with guests such as Denny Hanson (Flordians, Nomenclature, Vodka Had Russia), Jose Medeles, Teysha Garrison (Terraform, and John Spiegel (Paper Tanks). Around the time of the dissolution of this lineup, Dylan and Thomas Jefferson joined with vocalist/saxophonist Teysha Garrison and drummer Mark Makowski to assemble the seminal post-punk quartet, Dinner & the Maincourse.
In 2011, the group reformed with the only original members to record and release The Golden Trough, which introduced elements of structured composition missing from the band's prior output, blending experimental art-punk with their signature texture-driven noise attacks.. Their following release, 2012's "The Place Is Not the Postcard" featured bassist Paul Erlandson and found the group moving in yet another new direction, placing greater emphasis on intricate song structures and taking stylistic queues from post-hardcore, indie and the compositional/rhythmic complexities of prog and math-rock
Another line-up featuring new drummer, Andrew Rotter, and guitarist Spencer Pearson (Lune), was poised in late 2013 to begin performing and recording a set of all-new material, building on the sound established by "The Place is Not the Postcard." However, shortly before their first scheduled performance, Pearson unexpectedly left the group, which abruptly imploded shortly thereafter, leaving behind an album's worth of near-finished material which has never been performed or recorded, but may yet live to see the light of day if the proper conditions somehow come about.
The band is not currently active, while Thomas Jefferson Walter plays in Gorgon Zoloft and Dylan Thomas Walter pursues other projects including but not limited to The Process of Elimination. In 2011/2012, both brothers also played together with bassist Gabo Hernandez-Zepeda in the short-lived but noteworthy Sorry for Laughing, crafting a distinctive, lo-fi amalgam of noisy, blissed-out shoegaze and classic, Midwest-style emo.
