Choosing Akkadia
After several months of songwriting and personnel changes as well as band names, Akkadia was the final choice for the band name. We settled on Akkadia because there is so much history to its meaning and seemed appropriate to how we think.
Creating Our Sound
Our music reflects the influences in our lives and we feel very tied to our sound. It is emotive as well as intelligent in design and theoretical composition, yet still fun for the listener to enjoy the many elements of groove and melody. Our tracks range from smooth jazz/groove elements to a heavier dropped adult progressive rock.
Who We Are
In July of 2012 our previous vocalist, Tiffany McCroskey, took her sultry voice with her when she resigned from Akkadia for personal reasons, but is always recognized for bringing us up in the world those first years; laying out the finishing touches with her lyrical genius.
After a month of try outs, in September of 2012, we heard Shannon Green bring a shining life to our music in her audition and never wavered on our decision to welcome her as an Akkadian. Her clear and beautiful voice adds even more dimension to our already diversified sound and we look forward to many years and many new discoveries.
Our previous drummer, Phil Clark retired from Akkadia in September of 2012, but will always be known as the natural choice for our initiation as he had previously played in another band with our guitarist. He brought an integral groove to the music by knowing when to be flashy and when to tone it back to support the vocals.
Mark Drury joined us in October of 2012 as our new drum master and brought a whole new shape to our base sound that we weren’t aware we needed. Mark was a supportive fan of Akkadia from the beginning so it was an easy choice to invite him as our new drummer and it didn’t take him long to pick up our songs and throw in a little personal flavor and spice. We look forward to future recipes for Akkadian glory from Mark.
On bass we have Jay Hollett, co-founder, songwriter, and the glue that holds us together. With a spastic excitement for new sound and almost all-encompassing addiction to music, Jay keeps everyone on track. He brings a character to the band that we couldn’t live without; constantly reminding us that we love what we do and are incredibly fortunate to share the stages we play on with each other, as well as the music we create with all those who support and love Akkadia as much as we do.
Thomas Johnston is our amazing guitar for all of our current and future tracks, but also composes on the piano for some beautiful additions to future song releases. We are always in awe of his talent for music and rhythm. As one of the main composer/songwriters and co-founder of Akkadia, he is invaluable to us in many ways. Thomas studied music and arranging from more of a jazz side, but ever containing a true rocker’s heart. He brings elements of rock angst, jazz voice and a strong song structure to couple with the emotion of a blues guitarist and hybrid scales. He brings Akkadia’s music to a very unique place; giving us a wide palette to share our gift of music for a great and unforgettable listening experience.
