Seattle’s Another Perfect Crime met at Portland's Ladies Rock Camp in 2006, where the mission is to cultivate a supportive community of women, and foster unabashed creative expression. They immediately discovered a strong kinship, and their sound has been consistently influenced by the camp's collaborative spirit and by the DIY ethics they share. They were joined in mid-2011 by guitarist Jeanne Mitchell, who added an additional aggressive and powerful guitar tone to the band’s notoriously melodic and creative sound. Another Perfect Crime has toured, played locally, and created their own mark with Seattle’s Rain City Rock Camp for Girls, which was founded by APC bassist, Natalie Walker, in 2008.
“You Have to Care” is APC’s second full-length record, and embraces APC’s typical style of interweaving melodies, soaring vocals, and story-telling collaboration with new maturity and sonic confidence. The band takes a considerable step forward as they draw upon their rich musical influences and create an aggressive, yet undeniably melodic declaration. An acoustic version of the opening track “No Stars” was featured on Planned Parenthood’s “Sex Positive” benefit compilation, and the cheeky “Boys Night” is already receiving international buzz among Girls Rock Camp coordinators and participants all over the world. Artfully recorded and mixed by David Smith (of the Washover Fans), and Steven Aguilar (The Head and The Heart, Damien Jurado), and mastered by Ed Brooks (RFI), “You Have to Care” shows that the band has something to say, and they’re making you listen. Their CD comes with a 16 page full-color fanzine with photos, lyrics, and insights into their eclectic inner workings and behind the scenes of the making of “You Have to Care” over the past year.
