The Babysitters were formed in the spring of '82 by a chance meeting between Buttz & Pig in London's Carnaby St.
Pig had recently departed from Marionette & a fledgling T-Rextasy & Buttz was workin' in his near infamous shop in Carnaby St which was also a local hang out for the likes of Hanoi Rocks & other such luminaries.
Buttz had recently auditioned for Sigue Sigue Sputnik & was lookin' for an outlet for his new found song writing skills after playin' bass in a local punk band in his younger years & asked Pig if he knew any musicians to form a band.
Therein the seeds of the 'Sitters was sown & immediately Pig drafted in 'well ignorant mate' Jimbo from the Isle of Wight crew formerly of Demon Preacher.
As a permanent bass player couldn't be found at short notice Killer Kev from Marionette was asked to assist as himself, Jimbo & Pig had already played together in the Ramones-esque band The Rajones.
After 1 or 2 quick rehearsals the basics of Buttz' first penned song 'EveryBody Luvs you when your Dead' were nailed down, & the infamous 'Livin Out Rock n Roll' & the one chord wonder 'Goin Down' were written & various Dolls & heartbreakers numbers were rehearsed & demolished.
Quickly followed by their first gig at London's 100 Club opening the night with EveryBody Luvs You, halfway through the song Buttz rips Pigs' kit off the stage & then jumps into the crowd to watch Jimbo Pig & KK finish the number in total chaos....it was a talkin' point but more was to follow.
Next up was a gig at London's Pipeline Club at a packed out Gossips in Dean St where a nite of total anarchy went down in clubland history & was reviewed by Sounds music paper, more for the total chaos & casualties taken than anything else( for review see pics).
The 2nd gig played at Gossips resulted in an almighty brawl with Pig & Buttz fighting members of the audience before resuming the set much to the hilarity of Razzle & the rest of the audience. Buttz later went on to run his own club at Gossips with Spike.
Buttz, Pig & Jimbo quickly cut their first demo at a small studio in Carnaby St where Jimbo doubled up on bass while the search for a bass player continued until Boo was drafted in from the fledgling T-Rextasy band he'd joined with Pig & consequently returned to at a future date.
Pig later returned to Marionette & new sticksman Stick was brought in from Suffragette as the band started to change direction .
Various gigs ensued around the London music scene playin' with the likes of Marionette & Hanoi Rocks at places like Dingwalls & The Marquee resulting in a support on Hanoi Rocks UK tour.
A video was recorded from the Marquee which may see the light of day on dvd sometime in the future aswell as a cd of demos.
Further demos were recorded & management was found that resulted in a stint at red bus studios & regular appearences in the music press such as Sounds Melody Maker & Kerrang.
The Babysitters were also one of the opening bands to feature on MTV UK wayback when & also appeared at Carol Aid which was screened live on MTV America in support of the original Live Aid.
More gigs followed culminating in supporting legendary UK hippie band Hawkwind on their UK tour which also resulted in the usual chaotic mess that was The Babysitters.
Another successful stint at the Marquee club saw them opening at the Reading Rock Festival supporting The Mission & Alice Cooper, but which sadly saw the demise of the "Sitters after some in-fighting & last minute line up changes.
Buttz went on to form a new band 'Last of the Teenage Idols' releasing one album, Boo went on to play in T-Rextasy, Jimbo went off to America & did actually form a Babysitters 2 for a short time & Stick returned to civvy life.
A recent quote from Buttz I think sums up The Babysitters
''So there we are. It's who you know in that business. Looking back on quite a mad time of my life,.. the early Babysitters days were the best though... No pressure,.. no crowd expectation,.. just 4 blokes on stage ,.. usually pissed,.. laughing... learning the songs on stage!! and going home on the night bus,... skint.''
The Babysitters...Livin Out Rock n Roll, I'm Livin Out Rock n Roll....
