Currently one of the best live acts from the (US) Pacific Northwest, Black Eyes & Neckties (or ‘BENt’ as they are known to some) merge dark garage punk and horror rock with an infectious frantic energy. They have won the award for “best Rock Band” five years in a row! (2004-2008) as voted on by the readers of Bellingham, WA’s local monthly What’s Up! Magazine. They have recently signed with William Morris Agency UK and are embarking on their first UK tour in May of 2009.
Their first album “Stiletto” was released on New Regard Media. For the second record, BENt hooked up with Clickpop Records to create Apparition!. It was tracked in August of 2007 at Jackpot! Studios in Portland, and was engineered Adam Pike. Don Slack, of Seattle’s KEXP-FM, praised the new record as “a fierce blend of loud, buzzing guitars, spooky organ lines, pummeling rhythms, gravelly, shouted vocals, and horror-inspired lyrics.” Set to be released in April of 2009 is a split 12” with their friends The Russians (released on Krazy Keith records, with assistance from Clickpop Records).
Black Eyes & Neckties have toured regionally, and are especially popular both in the Pacific Northwest and, to a certain extent in the Southwest as well, having swung through Arizona and New Mexico several times. The band has a reputation for giving theatrical performances filled with dark showmanship and unpredictable antics. Wearing tattered, bloodstained clothes, torn ties, and blackened eyes, their graveyard aesthetic is not only visually engaging, but is also enmeshed in both the lyrics and tone of their music. They have even been known to spray (fake) blood on themselves during the show, occasionally splattering the crowd making for a chaotic spectacle with a manic soundtrack.
Black Eyes & Neckties have been a band since October 2002. Current members of the band are Bradley Horror (vocals), Ryan Cadaver (guitar), Davey Crypt (Drums), Brenda Grimm (Organ), Josh Homicide (guitar) and “The Fist” (bass, recently replacing Benny Bloodbath). They enjoy long van rides, gallons of whiskey, clever word play, swimming pool tours of America, gas station leg drumming, eating safeway manwiches, reading mid-90’s playboys, and making fun of each other. They are also to be found under the alternate (and less preferred) spelling Black Eyes And Neckties
