Toronto indie-rockers Boys Who Say No have been quickly building buzz with their playfully unpredictable brand of quirky party pop. In just a year the fresh-faced quartet has coalesced from a group of friends who jammed together into a tight outfit with a busy schedule. Comprised of four friends who played together in different formations dating back to middle school, Boys Who Say No solidified their lineup in summer 2008 with Luke Correia-Damude on guitar, banjo, and vocals, Mike Lobel on synths, ukulele, and percussion, David Stein on bass, and Frank Cox-O’Connell on drums and banjo. While all four members have impressive resumes outside of Boys Who Say No, the band keeps focused through a mutual love of songwriting, and a passion for playing music together—qualities that are reflected in both their shows and recordings. The Boys’ big break came in August, 2008 when the band was invited to record their debut EP with producers Dean Marino and Jay Sad at Toronto’s Chemical Sound Studios (whose roster includes Tokyo Police Club, Born Ruffians, Death from above 1979, Attack in Black and ). The result was a six-song EP that has garnered critical praise like, “Boys Who Say No add a well-crafted and delightfully tough-to-pin-down pop sound to Toronto’s diverse sonic landscape… NNNN.” (NOW Magazine) Having recently shared the stage with indie heavyweights Cut Off Your Hands, Chad VanGaalen, Two Hours Traffic, FemBots, and Bry Webb (Constantines), Boys Who Say No blast out a frenetic live show that has been described as sounding “something between Will Sheff (Okkervil River) and early urgent Talking Heads.” (FAZER Magazine) Summer 2009 will see Boys Who Say No makes lots of new friends while they play showcases at Over The Top Fest, North By Northeast, and SummerWorks.
