Formed in 1999, Captain Bogg & Salty is a band of six musical pirates from Portland whose costumed act blends original music with humor and history. Pirate jigs, mermaid lullabies, and rock & roll sea chanteys are interspersed with nautical advice and humor for buccaneers of all ages. With styles range from calypso and pop to galloping rock – and always performed in full costume and character – audiences may be convinced that six singing pirates from the Golden Age have learned to play modern rock instruments including bass, drums, melodica, guitar, and accordion. Offering an array of songs with broad appeal, the band plays pretty much the exact same songs at Portland’s rock clubs as it does at schools and libraries. (Some have referred to their performances as “the Fisher Price My-First-Rock-Concert”). Ninety-five percent of the band’s songs are written by the crew. The other five percent includes covers by the Toy Dolls, Otis Redding, and Disney.
Recent performances include The National Orange Show in San Bernardino, Conan’s Pub in Portland, and an ongoing summer 2004 tour of Multnomah County libraries.
