Cemetery Urn was formed in Melbourne, Australia, in the summer of 2006 by Andrew Gillon (Abominator and Bestial Warlust) and Damon Bloodstorm (Corpse Molestation, Bestial Warlust, Abominator, and Kutabare). Cemetery Urn was formed in Melbourne, Australia, in the summer of 2006 by Andrew Gillon (Abominator and Bestial Warlust) and Damon Bloodstorm (Corpse Molestation, Bestial Warlust, Abominator, and Kutabare). After many meetings in bars throughout 2005, the idea for a new band began to take shape. Through the alcoholic haze, a new force in Melbourne death metal was emerging. As Andrew was about to enter the studio to record the fourth devastating album from Abominator, they put the idea on hold until Andrew had finished his recording commitments. Songwriting commenced in February 2006, but was put on hold for five weeks in May/June while the band embarked on a mission to the US to absorb as much metal and alcohol as possible. Shortly before the trip, the group had a chance encounter with an old friend and drummer, Matt "Skitz" Sanders, at a party. He has played with bands such as Damaged, Terrorust, Sadistic Execution, Destroyer, Hellspawn, Funerary Pit, Abramelin, Blood Duster, and Noir Macabre. Upon hearing of their dark vision of death, he was instantly recruited to take up the drums. Tracking commenced in February 2007 at Three Phase Studios in Melbourne under the guidance of engineer/producer Sam Johnston. The line-up for the recording was as follows: A. Gillon (guitar and bass); D. Bloodstorm (vocals); and Matt "Skitz" Sanders (drums). Mixing was completed in June 2007 by Sam Johnston and Andrew Gillon at Three Phase Studio. Around this time, the band met another old friend, Squiz, at a Celtic Frost show in Melbourne, and he joined them on bass (Fridge, Drednought, Mustang, and Vicious Circle). In July 2007, the band secured worldwide distribution through Modern Invasion Australia. Cemetery Urn was created as an independent entity from the outset and remains so to this day. Metal on!
