Der Spazm is an indie/experimental rock band from Sacramento,CA. Dillon Christensen, The founding member, was Born in Virgina and moved to Sacramento at the age of 15. He formed the band back in 2006 with his long time friend Rhiannon, who played drum's. He eventually meet Leticia through myspace, and when the two met they found that their guitar styles meshed perfectly and their musical interests were the same. A huge influence for this band has been Sonic youth.
As time passed they began to grow and develop their song writing skills - they parted ways with their drummer and began playing with Johnny13 for a few months and they eventually decided they need to fill out their sound with a bass guitar.
Ashley had been friends with Dillon prior and they asked her to join the band around 2008, Ashley's skills on the bass complimented the intricate playing styles of both Dillon and Leticia. Ashley had been studying music at a local college and proved to be an extremely skilled bassist, who also had the ability to pick up on songs extremely fast, she proved to fill out the bands sound perfectly.
While they had been playing many shows around the Sacramento area, and receiving good reviews, they again eventually felt they needed to find a more skilled drummer - A friend named Alec filled in for a few months until, while at work, Dillon ran into an old friend Andy Fisher. Der Spazm had played a few gigs with Andy's former band Holiday In Spain so they had a feeling for each others style and musical tastes. Andy has brought power to the bands sound and the ability to improvise and jam on the fly.
Der Spazm is known for opening their sets with jam's and improvising in-between songs to keep the flow of the show going while Leticia changes tunings for different song's. They have also become known for ending their set's with noise making sessions, and they often end up on the floor tinkering with their pedal board's.
The band made some recordings back in 2007 and put out an demo e.p. called 'Song's from the digital sea', but work, money troubles, and drummer changes have prevented them from making a new record. They hope to save some money and put out a new album sometime in 2010.
This group has been developing their sound for the past 5 years, and they are finally picking up more notoriety in their hometown. It has been a long growing process, but if they can afford to make another Demo E.P. they are sure to make an even larger impact on the music scene.
