Electric Callboy is a German electronicore band formed in Castrop-Rauxel in 2010. The group was originally known as Eskimo Callboy and later adopted its current name in 2022. The band initially attracted attention for a post-hardcore–influenced sound and later gained wider recognition for comedic songs, music videos, and stage performances. Members have also occasionally performed DJ sets under the name Electric Bassboy.
The band’s debut EP, "Eskimo Callboy", was self-released in 2010 and distributed through EMP before being reissued by Redfield Records. In its early years, the group toured as a support act for bands including Bakkushan, Callejon, Ohrbooten, We Butter the Bread with Butter, and Neaera, and appeared at festivals such as Traffic Jam Open Air and Mair1 Festival. Their debut album "Bury Me in Vegas" was released on 23 March 2012 through Redfield Records. Later that year the band toured Japan as part of the Geki Rock Tour and subsequently performed in China and Russia. In late 2012 they also toured Germany and Austria as the opening act for Callejon. During the final concert of that tour at Live Music Hall in Cologne on 10 November 2012, several audience members were injured after pieces of the ceiling fell into the crowd, leading to the concert being stopped.
In November 2012, drummer Michael Maletzki left the band and was replaced by David Friedrich. The band toured the United States for the first time in April 2013 alongside Kottonmouth Kings and Deuce. In August 2013 they performed at Wacken Open Air and returned to Japan for another Geki Rock Tour appearance. The band received the Up and Coming Award at the German Metal Hammer Awards in Berlin in September 2013.
Their second album, "We Are the Mess", was recorded at Kohlekeller Studios with producer Kristian Kohlmannslehner and released on 10 January 2014 through Redfield Records and Warner Music Japan. The album reached number 8 on the German album charts and number 64 in Austria. The band promoted the release with shows in Germany supported by Annisokay and a European tour with Iwrestledabearonce, Her Bright Skies, and To the Rats and Wolves. In August 2019 they released the single "Hurricane" from their fifth studio album "Rehab", which was released on 1 November 2019. Following the album’s release, the band toured Europe on the Rehab European Tour. On 12 February 2020, vocalist Sebastian Biesler announced his departure from the group.
In April 2020, Kevin Ratajczak announced that the band had found a replacement singer. Nico Sallach, formerly of To the Rats and Wolves, was confirmed as the new member in June. Soon afterward the band released the single "Hypa Hypa", whose music video became widely viewed online and marked a shift toward a more comedic presentation. Later that year they released the songs "Hate/Love" and the EP "MMXX". In 2021 the band released the single "We Got the Moves", which surpassed "Hypa Hypa" as their most-viewed video, followed by "Pump It". The group applied to represent Germany in the "Eurovision Song Contest 2022" with "Pump It" but was not selected among the final participants.
In December 2021 the band announced that some older songs would be removed from streaming platforms due to lyrics considered problematic. In March 2022 the group changed its name from Eskimo Callboy to Electric Callboy after learning that the term “Eskimo” can be considered outdated or offensive in reference to Inuit and Yupik peoples. Earlier albums were subsequently updated with the new band name. In April 2022 they released the single "Spaceman" featuring Finch and announced their next album, "Tekkno". The album was released on 16 September 2022 and debuted at number 1 on the German album chart, the highest chart position of their career. Around the same time, planned tour dates in the United Kingdom, France, and the United States were postponed or cancelled due to health issues affecting Nico Sallach.
On 23 May 2024 the band released the single "Ratatata" with Babymetal, which was used by WWE as the theme song for the 2024 "Bash in Berlin" event. During a tour in Australia, Sum 41 drummer Frank Zummo temporarily replaced David Friedrich on drums due to illness. In January 2025 the band released the single "Elevator Operator". On 29 April 2025 Friedrich announced his departure from the band after thirteen years, and Frank Zummo subsequently returned to perform as drummer. Later in 2025 the band released the single "Revery" and announced the 2025–2026 Tanzneid World Tour along with the song "Tanzneid".
Electric Callboy’s music has been described as electronicore, metalcore, melodic metalcore, post-hardcore, comedy rock, and a mixture of electronic styles including dubstep and electro. The band have cited groups such as Asking Alexandria and Attack Attack! as influences. Their lyrics often address themes such as partying and nightlife and are sometimes presented in a satirical manner.
