Farewell To Freeway was a post-hardcore/metalcore band from Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
Farewell To Freeway has been producing one of the freshest sounds to emerge from the Southern Ontario music scene in a long time. Consisting of Chris Lambert (guitars/lead vocals), his brother Adam (bass/screams), Richie Gregor (drums/backing vocals), Drew Hardwood (guitars/backing vocals), and Michele Walter (keyboards/samples/backing vocals) Farewell To Freeway has continued to develop a clear and articulate voice and one that that has risen above an already oversaturated marketplace. With their ability to drag you through the depths of hell while simultaneously lifting you to the heights of rolling nimbuses you’ll find that Farewell To Freeway’s original breed of post-hardcore can emotionally subdue you seconds after you’ve been engulfed in rage. It’s also a sound that has resonated with thousands of people across the country.
On ‘In These Wounds’ Farewell to Freeway has continued to cauterize old wounds while opening brand new ones, a pertinent force that has driven the band for the last five years. Produced by Mike Borkosky (Ill Scarlet, The Reason, The Dupes) ‘In These Wounds’ deploys an arsenal of pop catching hooks and devastating breakdowns. From the daunting hardcore crunch of tracks such as “Held Down With Busted Arms” to the ambiguously moving “Lies Between Lives”, the band’s new recording is not only their most complex and mature effort to date but, it’s also evidence of the rich emotional narrative that they’ve been able to construct.
With incessant touring, Farewell To Freeway has forged a loyal and diverse following having completed seven full fledged Canadian tours while playing numerous Southern Ontario shows in between. Having toured from coast to coast on more then one occasion, the band has also had the opportunity to open for predominant acts such as Underoath, Hopesfall, Alexisonfire, Misery Signals, Silverstein, Protest The Hero, The Black Maria and Eighteen Visions amongst others. Their visionary musical balance has also been successfully promoted through three music videos that have all been added into extended rotation on Much Music’s LOUD channel while all three of their records have been released on Canada’s fastest growing independent record label, Year of the Sun.
By breaking down and reconstructing their own preconditions, Farewell To Freeway has successfully avoided becoming lost in the shuffle while their brooding integrity has enabled them to shift the popular definition of what heavy music can be accepted as. With the band poised to etch some brand new wounds on the face of popular music they’ll be vying to not only expose themselves but, to further expand the genres responsible for influencing them. With the release of ‘In These Wounds’ Farewell To Freeway has successfully defined what the future of North American hardcore should sound like.
