Faster Pussycat is an American hard rock and glam metal band from Los Angeles, formed in 1985 by vocalist Taime Downe, guitarists Greg Steele and Brent Muscat, and bassist Kelly Nickels. Downe has been the only constant member through numerous lineup changes. The band initially broke up in 1993 but reformed in 2001. Downe has been the only constant member through numerous lineup changes. The band initially broke up in 1993 but reformed in 2001. Faster Pussycat has released four studio albums: "Faster Pussycat" (1987), "Wake Me When It's Over" (1989), "Whipped!" (1992), and "The Power and the Glory Hole" (2006). They were commercially successful in the late 1980s and early 1990s, selling over two million records worldwide. In 2020, Jeff Mezydlo of Yardbarker included them in a list of "the 20 greatest hair metal bands of all time." Faster Pussycat was formed during the 1980s glam metal and glam punk boom in Hollywood. The band’s name was inspired by the film "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" After early personnel changes, the lineup included Downe, Steele, Muscat, bassist Kelly Nickels, and drummer Mark Michals. Before recording their debut album, Nickels was temporarily replaced by Eric Stacy due to an injury and later joined L.A. Guns. The debut album "Faster Pussycat" was released in 1987 on Elektra Records, supported by music videos for "Bathroom Wall" and "Don't Change That Song," and tours with Alice Cooper, David Lee Roth, and Motörhead. The band also appeared in the rockumentary "The Decline of Western Civilization Part II – The Metal Years." The band achieved their greatest commercial success with the 1989 album "Wake Me When It's Over," which earned RIAA gold certification. The single "House of Pain" became a hit, and music videos were produced for "House of Pain" and "Poison Ivy." During the supporting tour, drummer Mark Michals was fired and replaced by Frankie Banali temporarily, followed by Brett Bradshaw. Tours with Kiss and Mötley Crüe followed. In 1990, the band recorded a cover of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" for the compilation "Rubáiyát: Elektra's 40th Anniversary," later included on the 1992 EP "Belted, Buckled And Booted."
