Gepetto has been steadily grinding in the Portland Hip Hop scene since he first started rocking shows in 2006. His debut album, Hypocrite, is a self-produced testament to finding your place in a falling civilization, and accepting your role in its demise.

Gepetto has been steadily grinding in the Portland Hip Hop scene since he first started rocking shows in 2006. At the time he was part of the memorably named group, Mooseknuckle, and became known for infusing pubs and clubs with catchy hooks and raps with substance. As a solo artist he has ditched the joke title and aims straight for the heart of reality.
His debut album, Hypocrite, is a self-produced testament to finding your place in a falling civilization, and accepting your role in its demise. He spits precision verses that are personal and aware, and give shape to his sparse, melodic, bass heavy production. The title track is a scathing commentary of Gepetto’s own liberal white background. In it, he calls out the privileged who claim to be “socially aware” but are not actually changing their own life for any cause. The punchline is that he is unapologetic and guilty of the same thing, and cops to criticizing others for his own amusement while refusing to change himself.
At the same time, there’s plenty of good-old battle rap on Hypocrite, reflecting Gepetto’s reputation for being a live emcee at heart. He runs the gamut of topics and lays it all down with a sharp cadence that hits hard without fronting on his background. Learn more on his artist page at Taxidermy Records.
