1. Gernika was formed in the spring of 2009 in Boise, Idaho. The original members of Gernika consisted of Drew Lockhart on vocals, Manuel Asumendi on guitar, CJ Taylor on bass, and Dellstan Fillmore on drums. In the summer of 2009, Gernika released their first demo titled "Keep on Truckin'" and would play a small northwest US tour. In the winter of 2009 Dellstan Fillmore left Gernika for Big Judds (a resturant, not a band). Soon after losing thier drummer, Manuel Asumendi and CJ Taylor joined The Franklin Coverup, where they met drummer Brett Hawkins. Brett Hawkins soon joined Gernika as their drummer in the spring of 2010. Gernika then played many consecutive shows around Idaho through the end of the summer of 2010 and attempted to record a full length CD. Shortly after the summer of 2010, Brett Hawkins was asked to leave Gernika due to conflicting ideas for the future of Gernika. Open tryouts were soon held for a new drummer in the fall of 2010, where they found Jake Little. Now with the current line up of Drew Lockhart on vocals, Manuel Asumendi on guitar, CJ Taylor on Bass, and Jake Little on drums, the band releases their newest EP "[ger-nee-kah]".
2. Gernika is an alternative rock band, formed in Novi Sad, Serbia, in 2007.
After parting ways with their lead singer Dušan Pešić in 2009 and after the departure of drummer Marko Kolarić in 2010, current lineup consists of Vukašin Kartalović (vocals and guitar), Dušan Kolarski (lead guitar), Vladimir Antonić (bass) and Aleksandar Škorić (drums).
Mostly influenced by the 80s-90s alternative rock and 2000s indie and alternative music, Gernika makes their musical signature by blending atmospheric and melodic verses and bridges with powerful and riff-driven choruses, shifting from downtempo to double-time through their songs. Live performances are filled with improvisations and instrumental intros and outros.
In 2008, first songs were written and in 2010 a total of 11 songs were organized as a debut album 'Pod svetlom' ('Under Light'). Lyrically, album is focused on love, life and emotions, wrapped in symbols.
Over the next year, in 2011, 11 more songs were composed around the idea of a second album entitled 'Kontrolisana evolucija' ('Controlled Evolution').
Over a few years, band gained recognition by winning several demo band competitions and receiving good critics on their shows, thus having built a small but loyal group of fans in Novi Sad.
Struggling with finances, Gernika didn't enter the recording studio until late 2012. With the help of Nenad Grujić and Filip Vlatković, 'Pod svetlom' was recorded and produced over the next two years, with many idle periods. The album is still not released, again due to insufficient funds.
In 2013, Gernika released an eponymous EP, as a promo CD, which was self-released and handed out to fans in concerts. 'Gernika EP' consists of various studio, demo and live recordings of songs from both albums, all gathered in 2013.
In 2012, Vladimir returned to his hometown after his graduation, and in 2013 Aleksandar went to Netherlands, after being accepted at the Groningen Jazz Academy. Not being able to spend more time together, since late 2013 Gernika has low activity, reflecting on the number of shows, rehearsals and composing.
Alongside many alternative bands of Novi Sad, such as Azil 5, Uvertira, Wolfram, Kler, Velar, Casillas and many more, Gernika tries to keep the dying underground alternative scene alive.
In 2015, a tiny flame of activity shines a light on the recording of some new songs for Gernika's forthcoming 'Mali Doprinos EP' ('A Small Contribution EP'), in association with Radio Television service of Vojvodina.
