There are at least four different artists called Heirloom.
1. a band from Montreal, Canada;
2. an alternative rock/indie band from Brighton, United Kingdom;
3. an instrumental ambient/post-rock project from The Netherlands;
4. a metalcore band from Raleigh, North Carolina.
1. An imaginative mix of intimate folk music and classical instrumentation, Heirloom’s wistful songs are built from the lyrics up, and crafted with love and care. The group is made up of self-taught musicians and classically trained instrumentalists, and is influenced by artists such as Leonard Cohen, Sufjan Stevens, and Joanna Newsom. Together, their instruments create a warm, refreshing sound that is both welcoming and breathtaking, while leaving space for delicate vocals and earnest lyrics.
Having been called "bravely orchestral – masterfully arranged" (Grayowl Point), and ''une musique poétique et classique davantage réfléchie et moins formatée pour le grand public'' (La Bible Urbaine), Heirloom plays the notes that need to be heard, and nothing more. Over the past two years, they have been simmering down words and arrangements and toiling over exact sounds and phrases, and are finally preparing to release their third album on July 8, 2015.
In addition to their upcoming album, Heirloom has an EP (The Lexicon of Accepted Ideas, 2012), a full-length album (Makeweight, 2013), as well as a few videos to their name.
Heirloom, an orchestral folk band based in Montreal, is:
Lisa Malachowski - vocals, guitar
Quinn Brander - cello
Lisa Petersen - violin
Stephane Diamantakiou - double bass
Leah Dolgoy - folk harp, autoharp
Corinna Rose - banjo
2. Heirloom are Jane Rivers (vocals & guitar), Jade Taaffe (vocals & bass), Christopher Hallen (backing vocals & guitar), Ben Dawson (keys & guitar) and Nick McGregor (drums).
Heirloom’s sound opens with shared vocals - baritone and bittersweet alto. They interweave into the eternal, reminiscent of Nancy and Lee through the cult movieromance of a Tarantino lens. Layers of graceful reverb, delay and fuzz, amidst colourfully dark organ, surround Heirloom’s jangly guitars.
“Brighton quintet Heirloom have offered up their thrilling new track ‘Speak In Tongues’, with a gorgeously dark video to accompany it. Opening up with some particularly Pulp Fiction-ish guitar licks, the track’s an enticing slice of brooding but slick pop. The video, which comes directed and produced by Katia Ganfield, reflects its spirit perfectly, its film noir sensibilities paired with mesmerising, multi-coloured clips.” - DIY
"Sleazy riffs, stabs of organ and icy boy/girl vocals, Brighton’s Heirloom sound like a decrepit saloon bar’s resident garage rockers, hired to conjure a vampiric atmosphere way out west." - Hidden Herd
3. Heirloom is the instrumental ambient / post-rock project of guitarist and composer, Tom Broshuis, known for his work with his band, Mister And Mississippi.
From the urge to close a significant period in his life and bring an ode to his birthplace, the Dutch town of Groenlo, Tom wrote his debut album Closure, in the empty rooms of the house where he grew up. The melancholy instrumental music recalls nostalgia and homesickness, but also sounds dreamy, hopeful and soothing.
On his debut album Tom worked with multiple musicians, like drummer Marcel van As (Spinvis, Copark), singer Tamara van Esch (Mevrouw Tamara, Kim Janssen) and cellist Jonas Pap (Eddie Vedder, Red Limo String quartet).
The record is mixed by Simon Akkermans (C-mon & Kipsky, Binkbeats, The Great Communicators).
4. HEIRLOOM is a metalcore band from Raleigh, North Carolina. Their debut EP The Furthest Corners was produced by Chris Davis (of The Ghost Inside & Texas In July) and released in August of 2021. In March of 2022, the band announced plans to record with multi-platinum producer Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Three Days Grace, Saosin, In Flames) at his acclaimed West Valley Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California via Judge & Jury Records. The band finished their debut full-length record with Howard Benson & Neil Sanderson (of Three Days Grace), with a forthcoming release set for August 2023. HEIRLOOM desires to be a staple in the heavy music community by bridging the gaps between the rock and metal crowds - with soaring chorus melodies and ear-crushing breakdowns, rock audiences and heavy music lovers across the world will be captivated by the band’s live energy and positive message.
