Jerry Abstract completely encompasses electronic music in his lifestyle as a DJ, Producer, Remixer, Designer, Promoter and Friend to the community. He's the Creative Director and Co-Founder of the Decibel Festival, consults promoters around the U.S. on bookings, judges laptop battles and other competitions, throws his own events and was tagged as a "Next 100" artist by URB Magazine in 2007 and 2008 for his production talents. He creates tracks in his personal studio for labels like Berlin's Shitkatapult (Musick), UK's Semisexual, Detroit Underground, and Seattle's From 0-1, Memex, Fourthcity, Peloton, Dragons Eye Recordings and Dulcette. Production aliases include Ian Ginsing, for his quirky, experimental tech-house, and Former Selv, for idm, ambient, and instrumental hip-hop, reserving the Jerry Abstract moniker for his techno creations and DJ sets.
Mr. Abstract's influences come from a variety of places, starting with growing up in Detroit during the earlier waves of techno, attending secret underground parties in the early 1990's at randomly occupied buildings like 1217, the Shelter, the Packard Plant, and so on. He has spent a summer living in Berlin, and currently resides in Seattle taking inspiration from the scenic Pacific Northwest. Locally he has held a residency at the popular but now defunkt Groovetech, co-promoted the infamous RoboTrash weekly and helps with regular Decibel events. An established graphic artist working full time as a freelancer, Jerry also heads up his own multi-disciplinary design studio and creates art for many of his multifaceted ventures. His love of vinyl and art came together in his creation of a vinyl Dunny figurine (series one) for Kid Robot, which became the rarest Dunny to date.
On top of all of this, Abstract maintains a hectic DJ schedule, with appearances including Detroit's Movement (DEMF), Tresor (Berlin), Tonic (NYC), Miami's WMC, Bumbershoot (SEA), and of course a rare live set each year at the Decibel Festival (SEA). He has played alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin, Derrick May, Green Velvet, Ellen Allien, Apparat, T.Raumschmiere, Bruno Pronsato, Richard Devine and countless others. With Seattle itself now home to a bevy of talented electronic music producers, Jerry Abstract has raised his game to become one of the city's only elite DJ's / Producer's / Remixer's while bringing a positive attitude and skills to match other international talent.
