A Miami native, he began by co-founding the standout group The Goods, which was active during the 1990s. They worked with legendary producer Tom Dowd, won the prestigious “Album of the Year” Florida Jammy award and topped the Billboard Florida Radio & Record charts with their single “I’m Not Average.

A Miami native, he began by co-founding the standout group The Goods, which was active during the 1990s. They worked with legendary producer Tom Dowd, won the prestigious “Album of the Year” Florida Jammy award and topped the Billboard Florida Radio & Record charts with their single “I’m Not Average.” Their high-energy live show, outstanding musicianship and relentless touring led them to sign a recording contract with Polygram Records and be featured in a VH1 documentary. The Goods shared the stage with Pearl Jam, The Smithereens, Cracker and Matthew Sweet.
Since that time he has been pursuing a career as a solo artist that has seen Jim release five collections of songs, including 2005’s Stalker Songs, which earned a Gold Remi award in the Music Video category at the 40th Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival for the song titled “Houdini.” His material garnered “Best Acoustic Performer” (2005) and “Best Album” (2009 for Beachfront Defeat) honors from the Miami New Times, and the Broward Palm Beach New Times called Everywhere one of the top albums of 2013. His other solo releases include 2001’s Trouble Doll and 2003’s Hey Hey*.
In addition, Camacho’s music was featured in the Grammy-nominated Tom Dowd & the Language of Music documentary, in National Lampoon’s Pledge This, and the documentary Fatboy, which was nominated for “Best Use of Music in a Documentary” accolades at the Sundance Film Festival. His song “I Don’t Need You Anymore” (also from Beachfront Defeat) was featured prominently in the soundtrack for the hit ABC family show Pretty Little Liars. Jim has played at Radio City Music Hall, the Kodak Theater and Mirage Hotel, toured with Alicia Keys and John Legend as guitarist and musical director for the solo artist Zascha Moktan.
Jim toured the west coast, as a solo artist, with folk legend Linda Perhacs and played a string of dates in the U.K.
Camacho is a prolific songwriter, not only writing his own music but writing for other artist and writing musicals and scoring children’s theater productions. His initial foray into the realm began with Fools’ Paradise, which was choreographed by the acclaimed Jonathan Cerullo and ran as a full production in Miami and sold out concert performance workshops in New York. Next he co-wrote and scored Guru, which premiered in Miami, scored Mickey Herman Saves the $#&@ World, which premiered at the Adrienne Arsht Center, wrote the book and music for The Cavie Islanders and the Troll, The Guru of Gir, and his most recent musical, Digging for Bones, which had its premiere performance in May 2015.
Camacho has also collaborated with puppet master and children’s TV show vet Noel MacNeal on Who Put The Trick in Trick or Treat: Tales of Amazing Tricksters, Beasts of the Magical World and The Carnival of Extraordinary Animals, which have enjoyed productions over three consecutive years during the Boo at the Zoo at the Bronx Zoo, and Mouse King, another collaboration with MacNeal first staged in 2013, and now in it’s fifth year, has become an annual holiday tradition, having enjoyed four sell-out performances in 2017.
Camacho just released his latest song “Hit Me I’ll Hit You Back,” featuring vocals and the rockin’ guitar of Charlie Pickett, as a single and live performance video. The single is backed by a cover of the Flamin’ Groovies “Shake Some Action” and also features Pickett. The two artists have worked together over the years and have a great respect for each other’s skills.
Jim will be releasing a new full length soon along with his brother and former bandmate John. Joining him on the recording are his many longtime friends including Tony Oms (The Goods), Diane Ward, Jason Hann, Steph Taylor, Juan Davila, Fernando Perdomo, Charlie Pickett, Mike Vullo and Fritz Dorigo.
Jim will be releasing a new 6 song original EP soon along with his brother and former bandmate John. Joining him on the recording are his many longtime friends including Tony Ohms (The Goods), Diane Ward, Fernando Perdomo, Charlie Pickett, Mike Vullo and Fritz Dorigo.
Among Jim’s biggest projects of 2019 Season launch of the 5 segment series “Adventures in Songwriting.” In each segment, Jim works with an artist or group to create a new song. It studies the very essence and development of composing a song. The ins and outs inherent in the process. This first season includes work with Charlie Pickett, Ex Norwegian, Elsten Torres, Fernando Perdomo and Rob Elba. He will also release an EP of all the songs.
Additionally Jim has written and co-written numerous other songs that have just been released or will soon be released by a number of other artists. These include: Johnny Reid “Blank Page” (This album is currently #2 on the Canadian charts), Jason Morton and the Chesapeake Sons “One More Night”; Ana Cristina Cash “Renegade Rose”; Ilona “Love’s Out The Window”; Alex Di Leo “Brooklyn Bridge” & “Life”; and Chloe Lang “Party Down The Road”.
