Joseph Satriani (born July 15, 1956) is an American rock guitarist, composer, and songwriter. Early in his career, he worked as a guitar instructor, with several of his students achieving recognition in the music industry, including Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, Rick Hunolt, Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, Charlie Hunter, Kevin Cadogan, and Alex Skolnick. In 1988, Satriani joined Mick Jagger as lead guitarist for his first solo tour. He also toured briefly with Deep Purple in 1993, following the departure of Ritchie Blackmore. Satriani founded the G3 tour in 1995, collaborating with a range of guitarists. Since 2008, he has been the guitarist for the supergroup Chickenfoot.
