Joey Bones (born Joseph Michael Andrade) was born on March 23, 1990 in Greeley, Colorado. He is an eclectic musician who began playing piano at the age of 9. He always had an interest in rock and metal music and was influenced to learn guitar at the age of 15. The reason he learned guitar was out of his interest in impressing the ladies, but his heart is with his piano and his words. Joey had been exposed to rap at a very young age. His older brother, Miguel, had him listening to OutKast, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, SPM, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Nas, Jay-Z and Mobb Deep while he was still in grade school. He cites Black Sabbath, AFI, Pantera, Eminem, K-Rino, Tool, Glenn Danzig, Jello Biafra, Nas, Wu-Tang, NWA, Josh Homme, Modest Mouse, Mutoid Man, Tech N9ne and many others as his influences.
By the time he reached Sophomore year of high school he had become very skilled with piano and vocals due to choir and band practice. It was that year he decided to start a rock band. Along with Joey: Albert Shumacher, Erik Duzell, Drew Hansen, and his oldest and closest friend Ben Meyer, started a blackened death metal band called INFEKTED. Joey took the reigns as songwriter, vocalist and keyboardist. Albert was on drums, Erik on bass, Drew on rhythm guitar and Ben took care of band artwork and lead guitar duties. Complicated drama with a girlfriend caused a dispute among friends and the band broke up shortly thereafter. Joe and Ben remained close but the distance with Drew and other members caused the group to lose touch until Drew passed away in 2016 and they reunited for a short time to pay their respects.
Joey was around during the formation of a deathcore band started by Ben Meyer and Estevan Quesada called A Bribe for the Ferryman, but declined to take part in their music aside from critical analysis and some minor production work. It was around this time that Joey moved to Denver with his then-girlfriend and started collaborating with her on acoustic guitar and vocals. They had worked on performing covers of songs from Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins, American singer-songwriter Jack Johnson, and the hit song "Clocks" by British rock band Coldplay. Joey was not at all interested in the soft, folk-style music she played and transitioned to focusing more on guitar and poetry. He was studying Creative Writing at Red Rocks Community College and used his focus on storytelling and poetry as inspiration to fuse it with his musical abilities. He had continued studying this as well as art, journalism and animation which he finished at Front Range Community College after to moving to Boulder, Colorado. At this point Joey was mostly interested in solo work and declined most offers to collaborate musically until 2011 when he met a man named Trey Smith.
Trey Smith, a singer from Dallas, Texas, was impressed with Joey's lyrics and freestyle abilities and inspired him to work on rapping and music production. Joey began incorporating guitar into his beats after being gifted a new interface and microphone for recording. Now that he was beginning to fit his shoes musically, he was practicing with rhythm in words on a constant basis. Trey, impressed with Joey's passion, invited him to open up for his band, Space Law, at a basement gig taking place in his house. He performed with local Denver rap group UnBelievable Truth and another local rapper, B. Moore. After the performance, Joey, UnBelievable Truth and B. Moore formed a cypher on the patio and became friends. The groups have yet to collaborate but Joey has plans to collaborate with Moore sometime in 2017 along with Twin Cities/Boulder rapper and producer, EIDE.
Joey has produced a small number of rough demos and placed them in a collection called Voice Memo Demo, which he recorded as a series of freestyles over random beats or A Capella on a voice recording device (not a microphone). It also features a small number of comedic skits recorded by him and Trey Smith, although this collection is considered rough enough that Joey has no plans to ever release it. Joey has been working on a comedic cartoon series and a religiously themed graphic novel as well as music, and does all of his own artwork. Joey Bones has designed concert flyers, logos and album covers for progressive-rock band Space Law and their singer's solo project, Trey Smith Saw the Moose. He is currently working on finishing a mixtape called Demo-lition, set to be released for free on July 4th, 2017 and his first LP, titled G-Mergency, set to be released sometime before Christmas.
