Jon Patrick Foshee grew up in a beautiful, but stale, suburb where a Discord Records compilation happened upon his teenage turntable, corrupting him forever. Minor Threat, Black Flag, and Sonic Youth became the musical foundation one can still hear in his music. However, Jon eventually grew out of his mohawk, exploring different scenes and sounds, and the music he started playing sounded surprisingly like folk. In the tradition of Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, and Elliott Smith, Jon Foshee expressed himself in an intelligent, artistic, poetic, and discontent way with the acoustic guitar being the most prominent instrument. He has played many live shows, touring the states and constituting the original band of performers in the “Old Time Ruckus Revue,” the longest running old time and folk music show in Los Angeles, but his passion really lies in the writing and recording process. A visual artist by trade, he provides art direction for other musicians and businesses so that he can support his own musical exploration without compromise. He executes this by producing his own records on a label he started with childhood friend Jon Siebels (Eve 6, Monsters are Waiting, Kenan Bell) called Sonata Cantata, where Foshee also provides album and promotional artwork for other great bands such as Kenan Bell, Glassell Park 3, and Dot Hacker. Jon Patrick Foshee’s musicianship is constantly evolving: ranging from raw and experimental bedroom catalogs to well produced studio recordings. His earlier albums, which where often hand made and difficult to attain, have just been remasterd and are now available on itunes. Plus, J.P.F is currently putting the finishing touches on a new collection of recordings entitled “Long Ways to Nowhere” (available Summer 2010) in which he continues his lyrical assault on commercialism and conformity, as well as his poetic explorations of depression and depravity. This new LP shows Jon at a new peak of musical accomplishment and production: minimal but tough, raw but beautiful. He is not planning to promote the new album with a bunch of live performances, preferring to give an occasional show when the right opportunity presents itself, which will prove to be rare and wonderful experiences if you are lucky enough to catch one.
