A jazz/classically-trained musician with a BA in Music Business from Central Washington University, Schroeder says of his work “It sounds like The Beatles invited Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith to a jam session.”
Schroeder’s music has been prominently featured in TV shows such as Flashpoint (CBS, CTV, ITV), Defying Gravity (ABC), Make It or Break It (ABC Family), Degrassi (Teen Nick, CTV), and Stoked (Teletoon). Josh operates a home studio dubbed “The Warewulf Cave,” where he writes/produces music for Film/TV/Ads and works with other independent artists.
Josh has performed alongside musical icons including Dave Matthews Band, David Spade, Kenny Rogers, Tommy Tutone, Ryan Cabrerra, Visqueen and The Divorce, Kori Whithers, The Jane Does and Brienne Moore.
In 1999 and 2000 Schroeder was a member of the National Honor Grammy Jazz Ensembles. He studied Sound Studio Techniques at Thames Valley University and Ealing Studios in London, England in 2003. In 2005, he was among the winners of BMI’s National John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship contest. Schroeder graduated from Musicians Institute in Los Angeles where he studied music production and he immediately began self-producing his first solo record “Love is a Shade,” (available on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody). He was hand picked to participate as an honored member of ASCAP’s Lester Sill Songwriting Workshop, where he showcased to industry professionals among LA’s elite young songwriters.
In September of 2009, Josh signed his first major publishing deal with the Canadian music publisher Casablanca Media Songs. He made successful appearances at SXSW Festival in Austin, TX in 2009 and 2010. He's set to digitally release the companion EP for Love is a Shade in May of 2010, recorded at The Warewulf Cave. Upon his recent return to Oregon, Schroeder enlisted producer/drummer Jason Carter (Black Francis, Guards of Metropolis) to produce his newest solo project due for release in the Fall of 2010.
