After signing with Interscope Records in 2007, Gaga gained international recognition with her debut album, "The Fame" (2008), and its reissue, "The Fame Monster" (2009). The albums produced several commercially successful singles, including "Just Dance", "Poker Face", and "Bad Romance", each achieving high sales in the United States. Her second studio album, "Born This Way" (2011), incorporated elements of electronic rock and techno-pop and sold 1.1 million copies in its first week in the United States. The title track was a top-selling song on the iTunes Store at the time of its release. Her third album, "Artpop" (2013), was influenced by electronic dance music. She later collaborated with Tony Bennett on the jazz album "Cheek to Cheek" (2014) and released the soft rock-oriented album "Joanne" (2016).
Gaga has also pursued acting, appearing in the miniseries "American Horror Story: Hotel" (2015–2016) and the films "A Star Is Born" (2018) and "House of Gucci" (2021). Her work on the "A Star Is Born" soundtrack included the single "Shallow", which achieved chart success. She received awards recognising her performances, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Grammy Award in a single year. She returned to pop music with "Chromatica" (2020) and "Mayhem" (2025), which included the singles "Rain on Me" and "Die with a Smile". Gaga also continued exploring jazz with "Love for Sale" (2021), her second album with Bennett, and contributed to the soundtrack "Harlequin" (2024).
Gaga has achieved seven number-one albums and six number-one singles on the US Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts. She holds the record for the most-attended concert by a woman and is the only female artist with four singles selling at least 10 million copies worldwide. She was the highest-paid female musician in 2011 and has received numerous awards, including 16 Grammy Awards, 22 MTV Video Music Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, a Sports Emmy Award, and recognition from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Her philanthropic work focuses on mental health and LGBTQ rights. Gaga is also involved in business ventures, including the vegan cosmetics brand Haus Labs and the non-profit Born This Way Foundation, which supports the well-being of young people.
