The 1970's
Levi Dexter formed the legendary band Levi & the Rockats in 1977.
Having completed the "Eddie & Sheena" tour of the UK In 1978 Levi
headed to Los Angeles where he performed sold out shows at many of the
larger clubs in Hollywood including the Whiskey-a-gogo, the Starwood
and the Roxy. Levi has been seen on TV programs and news shows across
Los Angeles, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee and New York. Levi & the
Rockats were the first unsigned band to perform on the national shown
Merv Griffin Show and Wolfman Jack's "Midnight Special" TV show. Levi &
the Rockats performed on the Louisiana Hayride Show. Levi Dexter is
featured on the Andy Warhol TV show and are also featured in Andy's
Interview magazine. Levi & the Rockats are featured on the 20/20 TV
special on New Wave music. They toured Canada in late 1979...
The 80's
After Levi & the Rockats broke up Levi auditions Brian Setzer of the
Straycats for his new band "Levi Dexter & the Rip-Chords". Brian
declines but the new band makes it's Debut at the Metropol Ballroom in
W. Berlin, Germany and they are featured on German news shows and then
tour England again before touring the U.S.A. While in New York Levi
plays sold out shows at The Ritz, The Peppermint Lounge and The Mudd
Club. Then Levi Dexter & the Rip-Chords perform another sold out show
at Bond's Casino with The Clash. They are featured on the L.A. Style TV
show. Levi Dexter records are some of the most important recordings of
his style Rockabilly. He works with legendary record producer Richard
Gottehrer who had just produced a number 1 album by The Go-Go's. Levi
Dexter settles down in L.A. and forms Levi Dexter & the Tribe who would
play shows in California and New York. Levi is featured on nation wide
TV commercials for 7 UP and American Airlines.
The 90's
Levi Dexter is performing as a solo artist and performs live shows
around the U.S.A. His reputation and popularity grows through all of
Europe, Australia and Japan. In 1993 Levi Dexter joins the Japanese
band "Magic" to record the outstanding Levi Dexter & Magic CD for the
Meldac recording company in Japan. Levi plays live shows throughout the
U.S.A. including The House Of Blues in Los Angeles.
2000 (and beyond)
Levi still continues to perform as a solo artist in the U.S.A. Based in
California with his wife Bernie, Levi Dexter can be seen performing
headline shows and festivals throughout America. He performed live,
introduced headline acts and was MC, DJ and performed live at such
events as The Indiana Rockabilly Weekender and The Oneida Rockabilly
Festival and the Las Vegas Rockaround.
As new generations of young people discover the music style of the
1950's and the neo-rockabilly sound of the 70's and 80's Levi Dexter's
fan base grows larger. His live Bop-Hop 2003 show it Tokyo was a
sensation that they are still talking about today. A live CD of the
Bop-Hop show has been completed and should be available summer 2004.
Levi has produced a forthcoming CD for the band "The 7 Shot Screamers"
due to be released in 2005 with 2 added track by Exene from the band X.
Levi returns to Europe to perform with the Caravans at the Waldorf Rock
'N' Roll Weekender May 2004 and also at the Finland Rockabilly
Weekender in July .
2005 Levi returns to the U.K. with the Caravans after 20 years away
playing the legendary rocker haunt, the Ace Cafe in London and also
headlining a psychobilly weekender in Leicester. Levi is MC, DJ and
also performs with the legendary band Magic with Slim Jim Phantom plays
drums at the Green Bay 50's Rockin' Fest II. The show rocks the house!
The whole week was a blast! Summer 2005 Levi will perform at the
Hootenanny in California and also the 3rd Hollywood Rockabilly
Showdown. Look for 2 new CD releases and a Levi Dexter DVD later this
year (including rare 70's appearances on the Merv Griffin Show and
Wolfman Jack's Midnight Special T.V. shows.. 80's video's and tour
video with Levi Dexter & Magic in Japan and in the U.S).
