Linda Hornbuckle-Young was born on November 22, 1954 to Bishop Howard and Julia Mae Hornbuckle in Portland, Oregon. She passed away after a courageous, two year fight with kidney cancer on October 4th, 2014.
Linda grew up attending several grade schools in the Portland Public School System before graduating from Grant High School in 1973. While in school she excelled in track & field and choir. She began singing Gospel at the age of 6 at Grace & Truth Pentecostal Church, pastored by her father, Bishop Howard Hornbuckle, Sr.

Linda grew up attending several grade schools in the Portland Public School System before graduating from Grant High School in 1973. While in school she excelled in track & field and choir. She began singing Gospel at the age of 6 at Grace & Truth Pentecostal Church, pastored by her father, Bishop Howard Hornbuckle, Sr.
As a young adult Linda ventured out singing several different styles of music and traveling the world with a variety of highly successful bands, Quarterflash, Nu Shooz, and Dan Reed, just to name a few. Over the years Linda collaborated with her longtime friend and pianist, Janice Scroggins, to create a magical music experience. Linda recorded several CD’s with the latest being a 2009 collaboration of duets with Janice Scroggins entitled, “Sista”.
In 2012, Linda Hornbuckle was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. The later years saw Linda return to her roots of Gospel music by creating one of the highlights of the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival – The Linda Hornbuckle Old Time Gospel Hour.
Linda turned her life over to Christ at a young age and was an active member of Grace & Truth Pentecostal Church her entire adult life.
She met and married Mark Young in 1991.
Linda leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Mark Young; her 3 canine daughters, Cha Cha, Sadie, and Sweetie; mother, Julia Mae Hornbuckle of Portland, Oregon; sisters, Sandra Hornbuckle-Owens (the late Clark Owens), Deborah Brown (John Brown), Beverly Moody (Calvin Moody), Anita Hornbuckle, Cecilia Tillery (Russell Tillery), the late Teresa Feng (Royal Feng), Mary Clisby, Juanita Young, all of Portland, ,Oregon, and Jeanette Ward of Renton, Washington; brothers, Rev. Howard Hornbuckle, Jr. (Tamara Hornbuckle) of Fairbanks, Alaska, Paul Hornbuckle, Michael Hornbuckle, both of Portland, Oregon, and Carl Young of Vancouver, Washington; a number of nieces and nephews, including Corina Owens and Jeromye Clisby of Portland, Oregon, Stephanie Casin of New York City, and LaShonda Griffin of San Francisco, California; and many, many friends and cousins.
She will be missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
