Navel gazing, highly biographical, cathartic lyricism, obnoxious punning, moot metaphor, unabashed self-consciousness, and run-on sentences of self-promotion are qualities nary as compelling as in the case of NYC's Liv Carrow. Her songs are like the little animals that your 4-year-old nieces and nephews make out of play-doh; lumpy yet distinguishable in form, rudimentary to the point of psychedelic complexity, dry and crumbly on the outside but "all kinds of squishy" on the inside.

The mysterious and oddly lovable bassist from ecstatically weird acts Huggabroomstik and Griffin and the True Believers takes the scenic back road to your heart with her porch-swing guitar folk songs and clever-ish observations on life, death, love, health food, human reproduction, the unseen world of cosmic currents, awkward crushes, metaphysics, and everyone's favorite-despair.
Her influences run the gauntlet from Patsy Cline to Kate Bush to Michael Gira.
Liv has been known to dilettante around in different sub-scenes within the contemporary indie-folk realm, whether it's in NYC, Philly, Boston or Guelph, Ontario. Her songs valiantly attempt to reflect her broad range of influence without compromising her unique and heartfelt confessions or wacky guitar style, and are peppered with hints of musical training, salted with a fuck-it-all DIY ethic and earnest, homespun style.
Liv's music has been compared to Joanna Newsom, Daniel Johnston, Kimya Dawson, Nina Nastasia, Gregory and the Hawk, Dolly Parton, The Mountain Goats, Julie Doiron, The Magnetic Fields, and many of her other musical heroes, which usually makes her feel pretty good.
Liv plays solo frequently in NYC and the surrounding area and can often be found accompanying Huggabroomstik, Griffin and the True Believers, and has made recording and performance stand-ins with acts such as Dan Fishback, The Faggots, Yoko Kikuchi, Angela Babyskin, Feel the Feelings, Preston Spurlock, Joanna Kelly, Andrew Philip Tipton, The Wowz, Ching Chong Song, Lisa Li-Lund, Powerknap, and more.
You can often spot her at the Sidewalk Cafe, home of antifolk, drinking or looking around suspiciously. She is also available for Tarot readings which can be obtained for a song. Her debut album, "it's About Time," recorded and produced by Huggabroomstik co-frontman Dashan Coram, is available here and her second full-length is in production with producer and songwriter Andrew Philip Tipton.
"A timeless collection of introspective folk pop psychadelia with a little bells and whistles and bus sounds help from Huggabroomstik bandmate Dashan Coram (Secret Salamander)."- Olive Juice Music
