“I’ve had my hand in the music scene since around 2000 working on other band’s projects. I wanted to finally bring everything I had to the table; voice, songwriting, and years of production.”
The first Mana Machines EP is an original and subtle mix of electronica and acoustic rock with a mainstream mindset that isn’t far from pop.
The apparent influences on Mana Machines are a broad array. Erik’s vocals have a depth not unlike Chris Cornell’s solo material. Erik cites Bjork as an influence for her unique take on electronica and Rush and Talking Heads for their unusual sense of rhythm. And it isn’t hard to hear The Who coming through in the grandiose chords.
“Mana Machines EP-01″ is a 5 song resume of tracks subtly layered with texture and warmth similar to Peter Gabriel or fellow Portlanders The Helio Sequence. In some cases 50- different vocal and instrumental tracks are blended together into a single blanket of sound and feeling. The EP balances sparse and overwhelming, electronic and acoustic. There’s a dynamic of feeling and sound that shares its ideals as much with classical movements as a set of pop/rock songs can. Every song is an unpredictable surprise. A strong beginning for a unique musical direction.
