Matchbook Romance was a post-hardcore and emo band from Poughkeepsie, New York and were originally known as Fizzlewink and then The Getaway.
The band formed in 1997, consisting of Andrew Jordan (vocals & guitar), Ryan Kienle (bass) and Jon Dunham (drums). This line up changed constantly throughout the years before they picked on the name Matchbook Romance. Initially, PJ Manzo (who will later join the band River's End) was their original lead guitarist, he joined the band in 1999, and a year after, Adam Bock, then replaced Jon Dunham in July 2000, with Adam, the band begun recording their first album titled "Who's Listening" (2001), this was an independent release and was self-released when the band was called Fizzlewink. A few months after this release, Ryan "Judas" DePaolo would join the band as third guitarist. In August 2001, they announced the departure of Adam Bock who was then replaced by Aaron Stern, this line up change also marked the beginning of a new musical direction for the band which prompted them to change their name to The Getaway, during this period they would record demos and write early versions of songs that would later be featured on their professional debuts as Matchbook Romance.
The band was contacted by Brett Gurewitz of Epitaph for a record deal and soon after the news of them signing with Epitaph came to light, Canadian based Pop-Punk band The Getaway decided to take legal action about the band's name. The band then decided to held a contest online to pick up a new name, but in the end, Aaron Stern came up with the name Matchbook Romance in late 2002, before all this happened, PJ Manzo left the band and so the band's final line up became: Andrew Jordan (vocals, rhythm guitar), Ryan Kienle (bass, backing vocals), Ryan "Judas" DePaolo (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Aaron Stern (drums).
As Matchbook Romance, they released two albums with Epitaph: Stories and Alibis (2003) and Voices (2006) and one EP titled West for Wishing (2003) as well as an split EP with Motion City Soundtrack (2004).
Matchbook Romance headlined the Epitaph Tour in early 2005, playing alongside their label mates Motion City Soundtrack, From First to Last, The Matches and Scatter the Ashes.
The band broke up in March 2007 but would then return a handful of times for few reunion shows, once in May 2009 for a short tour, two shows in December 2012, a Warped Tour in summer of 2015 and finally three shows to commemorate Voices 10th year anniversary in February and March of 2016.
