They formed in 2004, having played in various bands together previously. In 2005 they wrote and recorded their first CD ‘Lost Pilot’ at home in Manchester and Derbyshire. Tracks from ‘Lost Pilot’ were featured on compilation albums put together by Manchester promoters Switchflicker and PopCult, which lead to the band receiving radio play on BBC 6 Music and getting their first gig at the Sounds From The Other City festival in Salford in 2006.
They continued to play live around Manchester throughout 2006, receiving more radio play and critical praise for ‘Lost Pilot’ and its follow up CD ‘Bad Wizard’. In 2007, the band recorded a live session and interview for Channel M, played the XFM Xposure showcase at In The City and recorded and released their third CD ‘16 Seconds Happy’.
During this time, My Side of the Mountain also performed as a backing band for acclaimed solo artist Magic Arm, with Magic Arm returning the favour as an occasional fourth member. This culminated in a live session for Marc Riley’s 6 Music show and a performance on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury in 2008.
In 2009, the band were commissioned to write and record a song for the soundtrack to ‘Almost There’, an exhibition by artist Joe Simpson. The track ‘Can’t Go Home’ also features on their new EP ‘Digits’, which will be released in the autumn.
