Obviate are a progressive deathcore band from Idaho, USA. They originally began as a two-piece in Twin Falls, Idaho, with just Landon Smith and Jade Riley on guitar, and after a while adding Landon's younger brother Zane Smith on bass guitar. They played some shows in the Twin Falls area as this three-piece, with Landon also doing vocals and using a programmed drum backing track to fill out the sound. In November of 2017, Landon's long-time friend and drummer from Idaho Falls, Idaho, Trevin Moulton came to a band practice to jam. Landon and Trevin met each other on Twitter in the early '10's, soon after realizing they both lived in Idaho Falls at the time. They met and hung out at some local shows in IF, and Landon was even in Trevin's band Corona Borealis for a short time. Ever since, they had been wanting to play music together again--as they have a lot of influences in common--and finally made it happen that November. The band quickly inducted Trevin as the drummer at that practice, and they were ready to really move things forward. However, unfortunately, just two days after Trevin joined them at practice, Jade moved to Maui, Hawaii, as he was planning on. Just as quickly as the band had become a four-piece, they were back to three-piece status. But they didn't let it slow them down. The three practiced together some more into the new year, and got their first show with a real drummer in Pocatello, Idaho, that upcoming March. Following that, they played a few more shows: Pocatello again and Burley in May, then Pocatello once more in June. They were booked for another Pocatello show in July, but due to a lot of sudden changes, they had to drop off of that one. Landon and his girlfriend Kelsey had a baby, and then Zane moved down to Florida for college. Unfortunately, that effectively halted the momentum the band had been building up. Since then, Zane came home for winter break in December of 2018, so the three got together in Jerome/Twin Falls to go to a show and play some music together again, and Landon and Trevin had plans to play as a new, heavy two-piece at a show in Pocatello, but those fell through due to busy lives. Landon is also moving to Florida this March of 2019, but the three have plans to still at least write, record, and release music, even if they can't play it together for the time being.
