Orbs began in the fall of 2007 in the United States after a series of cross country file swapping sessions between Guitarist Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me) and keyboardist Ashley Ellyllon (Abigail Williams / Cradle of Filth). The band mixes high energy, 90's tinged space-rock with thunderous piano driven choruses, lush melodic textures, and quirky classic progressive rock passages and song structures. Singer / guitarist Adam Fisher (Fear Before) came on board shortly thereafter and the band quickly began to take shape and developed an urgent sense of more than just music.
Orbs is the coming together of friends with the common goal of opening up their minds to every creative possibility in and outside of each song, challenging the common perception of how a song should be structured, and providing an opportunity for the members to explore common interests in matters of science and wanting to better understand and build a better relationship with the nature / animal community.
Fisher's lyrics offer a creative writing palette to help bridge the music with the ideology of the band, with each song presented as a vivid story telling experience where questions are posed and often answered in the form of different characters within a song.
The band finished writing and demoing the songs for their debut full length in the the summer of 2008 and added Clayton West Holyoak (Fear Before) on drums, and Chuck Johnson (Nightbear) on bass, and entered The Basement recording studio in Winston-Salem, NC with producer / engineer Jamie King and recorded the 9 song, 66 minute album in January-February 2009.
The band takes a similar sound of the progressive rock of Between the Buried and Me and the later experimental sound from Fear Before the March of Flames.
