Pete Stein is a songwriter and solo performer who rambles adventurously around that broad and wanderlustful genre of Americana / alt country music. Pete Stein is a songwriter and solo performer who rambles adventurously around that broad and wanderlustful genre of Americana / alt country music. His heart-worn songs, soulful voice and mournful harmonica sound something like a late-night conversation between Bruce Springsteen and Townes Van Zandt that might've taken place in a dusty old van while Ben Nichols and Justin Townes Earl rode in the back, gazing out the window, just watching the world float by...Neil Young playing on the radio. His barebones recordings aim your red heart for the horizon. And, his live show takes you on a trip from foot-stomping whoops and hollers, on over to the one that got away, and back again out of the ashes of the past. It's the kind of music that looks you square in the eye and makes you remember the hurt and hope we all share down here in the dirt and sweat and blood.
Originally from a small farm in the foothills of the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Pete now hails from Knoxville, Tennessee (by way of Florida, California and Massachusetts) — when he's not on the road. He's spent most of the last eight years touring through neon cities and sleepy little towns out to Colorado, Texas and back throughout the south-east. You can catch him on big stages opening for acts as rocking as The Reverend Horton Heat, or you can come drink beers with him in smoky little dive bars. He's at home in either setting, and he'll make you feel that way, too.
