1) - Australian composer/sound-designer/digital artist Peter Miller.
Along with director Alex Proyas (I Robot, The Crow, Dark City), Peter was one of the founding members of the acclaimed Australian film production company Meaningful Eye Contact, known and respected internationally for the creation of innovative music videos, films and commercials.
In the years while MEC was active, Peter released a number of musical works, notably his CD Love Vs Gravity and the soundtrack album from the Meaningful Eye Contact feature-film Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds. His soundtrack for Spirits received critical praise both for its contribution to the film and as a music recording in its own right. Rolling Stone was impressed enough by his subsequent release Love Vs Gravity to conclude that “ ...people like Peter Miller are a reminder that on the serious experimental front we have musicians who deserve our support and admiration ...” Following the release of his next CD The Violet Flame, Rolling Stone claimed Peter as “ ...one of Australia’s unsung musical heroes.”
Peter created Perpetual Ocean in 1990 and almost two decades later his musical explorations continue to garner praise. The Sydney Morning Herald said of his most recent musical project, the 6 CD atmospheric magnum opus Strangeness & Charm, that: “In this remarkable work, Peter Miller has explored that wonderful musical world of the quiet, the understated, the delicate and the beautiful... the listener enters an ethereal world full of filigrees and seductive repetition that hovers somewhere between Brian Eno and Philip Glass...”
In addition to his standalone musical works, Peter composes music and creates sound design for film and television. His recent sound design for the hugely successful DreamWorks film The Ring has helped keep many millions of cinema-goers on the edge of their seats. His musical composition for film includes documentaries such as Malcolm McDonald’s award-winning Gumshoe and the controversial Watch the Watch, and many short films. He has also composed music and created sound design for theatre and art installations.
Through Perpetual Ocean, Peter is highly regarded around the world for his soundtracks for television & cinema commercials. His music and sound design can be heard on commercials for Nike, Mercedes, Amnesty International, Heineken, Adidas, The United Nations and many others.
Peter's visual work also finds critical approval. His recent exhibition of mathematically created dark organic works, biologika, was admired as "deeply geeky, but strangely appealing" by The Australian. Be sure to visit his Gallery on this site.
